Brothers

Not ever having seen the Original Susanne Bier film, I knew NOT what to expect from this film, Brothers (released in 2009 in the US, and just recently in Asia).... we (David, Liya & I) were all second guessing what's to come... and what we all thought as predictable turned out to have been unpredictable all in all...

The movie with it's subtleness could very well have been a TV MOVIE, in my opinion, but the outstanding performances of the three leads, Tobey McGuire (creepily lanky and so intense); Natalie Portman (luminous and as always, emotionally beautiful to watch); and Jake Gyllenhaal (he just keeps getting better and better with each movie)... as well as the supporting cast...

At the beginning of the film, one is lead to believe that this simple, normal, loving family's life (Young Couple Tobey & Natalie with their two kids) would be upsetted by the arrival of Tobey's bad boy brother, Jake - newly released from prison... but it was to be sooo much more once Tobey's character goes to Afghanistan as a young captain in the US Marines, where he was captured by the enemies and was presumed dead by the Marines and the family...

Harrowing sequences of Tobey & friend's capture... and tortures.... not for the soft hearted (Liya actually had to scream and walk away a couple of times!) ...and what was to happen in captivity, set off all the drama of the movie....
When I first saw the poster for this film, and see the three leads, I knew I wanted to see it... and now am very glad I did.... again, the director Jim Sheridan did not go for the full blown drama... nor did the actors do over the top performances... but it was all the subtleties of the film and the actors that made the movie even more worth seeing for me... All three actors, I PREDICT, will sooner or later, walk away with their own OSCARS - if Hollywood would just really take notice....

Livin La Vida Openly Gay - Finally!!!

The biggest shocker I woke up to this morning, is an email from my friend Richard Yep, that Ricky Martin (Mr. Shake Your Bom Bom, himself!) FINALLY admitted his homosexuality & well, came out ... okay okay, not much of a SHOCKER as most everyone already knew he is Gay - ever since his MENUDO days, really.... it is more of a shocker that he finally came out - after all these years...

So now, he Officially wears his GAY PRIDE openly!!!

In this MTV Uplugged Video - Mr Martin sings my all time Fave song by him: Lola Lola:

TATTOO ME!!

wow...seems so looong ago.... almost 3 years ago to be exact....

Taipei Toy Festival 2010

Set your calendars and make way for 2010's Taipei Toy Festival!!! Happening in July for 4 consecutive days - the 8th thru the 11th...If it's anything like 2009's Taipei Toy Festival - then it will be another MUST SEE, MUST EXPERIENCE, oh-so-much FUN Event - filled with toy designer/artists from all over the world... meet n greet... exhibitions.... and yeah TOYS to add to the collection!!!

SEE YOU THERE!!!

United Nations of Be@rbrick

Bearbricks, as most of you know have been around since the early 2000's... and each year a couple of BASIC collection is out with 10 different series included in each collection (Basic, Jellybean, Pattern, Flag, Horror, Sci Fi, CUTE, Animal, and a couple of Artists... plus a HIDDEN SPECIAL one each collection...) and one can collect all (YOWZA!!!) or just the one that appeals to you... For Sue - it is the Sci-F; and for Juliana - CUTE & HORROR... They are BOTH soooo good as they were able to complete their series's of choice already.... and Sue, besting Juliana and I for being able (have the SELF CONTROL, really!) to STICK with just that Sci-Fi series... Juliana and I find ourselves shooting in ever direction... with basically each and every Bearbrick - a cuite MUST HAVE... LOLs...

Anyway, for my part, the first one am actually close in completing is the FLAG series - my love for travel and other cultures is what appealed to me to collect this particular one... love seeing how each country's national flag is interpreted onto the tiny bears... and so far, each rendering is just too cool...

well, out of the 19, 19 years to collect so far, I have managed to get 18 of them.... some I got through my Travels in Japan.... the kindness of friends who donate theirs to my collection... most through the help of Sue & Juliana, of course!!! I have #'s 2 thru 19 - with #1, representing US of A, being the elusive one... not so elusive as it is out there on eBay and Yahoo Auctions... just a matter of finding one at a very good price - so as to not break my Bearbrick allowance bank... hahahahaha

so, in case any of you has one of him extra or willing to part with at a very good price - FEEL FREE TO HOLLER AT ME!!! Then I can FINALLY COMPLETE my United Nations of Bearbricks - and adding the following years to come will be easy enough.... don't even bother to ask what the other series am concentrating non collection... haiiiis...

SUE: Thanks for the recent help with these 12 cuties, made my collection almost complete!

Palm Sunday Today

Up early this cold & gloomy Sunday morning.... not much on the AGENDA... David has a local tour to lead... friends way too busy with their own things... heading to my local church in a little bit, for the Palm Sunday mass... am sure it'll be CROWDED as most all Annual Palm Sunday services are... still, am looking forward to it as the service is beautiful and the songs lovely... one of the things I always look forward to when going to mass is the music... for some reason, I tend to get all emotional when I hear church choir sing...

=====================================
Palm Sunday March 28, 2010
As Jesus made his entry into Jerusalem, the crowds lined his path with palm fronds. In churches, observances include the blessing and distribution of Palm leaves to their congregants. Also the beginning of Holy Week, the countdown to Christ's crucifixion and his resurrection on Easter Sunday.

A Great and Blessed Sunday to you all...

JT arrives in Manila!!!

Justin Timberlake arrived in Manila a couple of days ago... he is in town as a featured guest on Timbaland's Shock Value Tour - March 27th - tomorrow nite.... wish I was going but am not there.... am in Taipei....Waaah! why does it seem like all the GREAT concert in town never happens when am around... so far I have missed Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry (though I saw her at the local mall), Neyo - heck, even Air Supply!!!

Oh well... there's ALWAYS You Tube, I suppose....

it's an OPEN & LOCK case...

I have completed the chorus line of OPEN PLAZA Premium Toys - FINALLY!!! With a BIG THANK YOU shout out to Sue for helping me acquire the last piece to complete this collection... actually I would have been loooong finished in completing the collection - even with the addition of the Silver and Gold variations of Open & Lock for the Holidays to boot (part of my XMAS present from Sue & Cecilia) - but towards the end of the promotion, 7-11 Taiwan introduced an additional character... that of the program's spokesperson, Jolin Tsai... Jolin has been one of the Premier Pop Idol in Taiwan ever since I moved here - and that was a decade ago...

Anyway, I was frustrated with the idea as I knew I was going away and will most likely not have a chance to collect this - and how many of us are ever happy knowing our collection is not complete...especially when it is just by one piece... months passed and I have completely forgotten about her and was just reminded last month... so I had to ask Sue for help as she is, for me and Juliana, the Yahoo Auction Queen of Taipei... hahahahahaha... Lo and behold, she has not failed us yet - so now, another collection completed!!!

Soundheim Turns 80: "Light The Lights"

March 22nd marked the 80th birthday of Stephen Sondheim, one of the true legends of Broadway Musicals. One of the most celebrated prolific musical theatre lyricist and musical composer... and definitely a FAVE of mine... He's won countless awards: Tonys, Grammys, Oscars, and even a Pulitzer Prize!!!
"Gypsy', "A Little Night's Music". "Company". "Into The Woods", "Sunday In The Park With George", "Passion", "Sweeney Todd" - and the list goes on and on and on..... Each one just as Great as the other.... I have been LUCKY enough to catch the original stage productions of "Into The Woods" & "Sunday in the Park with George" on Broadway - experiences that will always be UNFORGETTABLE for me.... the rest I caught, here and there: touring company, revivals, PBS, tributes, etc... he's even dabbled into the world of movies, probably most notably, for the Oscar winning song, Sooner or Later, sung by Madonna in film Dick Tracy...
Mr Soundheim will never cease to AMAZE me... and all I can hope for is that he continues to write more brilliant music for the stage, television, movies - any form really, for many more years to come.
Another FAVE, Elaine Page on BBC Radio 2, just had a special 2 hr tribute in honor of his BDAY - playing music from his various musicals... whether you are a Soundheim aficionado or not, it is worth a listen: CATCH IT HERE

It would be so very hard for me to pick out just one Fave song from him, as I have so many. But I will leave you with one of them: Being Alive sung by a few Soundheim staples: George Hearn, Carol Burnett, and another fave of mine, John Barrowman.

Don't just store them, have FUN!!!

if you are like me, with way too many PHOTOS slowing down your computer, you are always on the lookout for external storage to file them.... I know one can but those that can store almost all.... with large capacities - but to me they are too boring,... just a box that attaches to the computer... I tend to opt for the cute ones - though limited in capacity as most can only store up to 8 GB.... I have yet to find a cute one that can handle anything more....

I have a few tokidoki ones which I LOVE but for the most part do not use... more for the collection... hehehehehe But just recently, I happen upon these, new on the market for 2010, USB MEN... first in a local TOY MAGAZINE, then at an actual iMac shop in Taipei.... they are just too funny with the way you POP out their head and you plug into your computer the body... HILARIOUS!!!

Right now you have a couple of lines to choose from: Professional or Sports Themes... so if you are an office worker, you can actually have a mini you as your storage backup... FUN!!!

I Love the SUPER 8 one....

...waiting...

Waiting for What??? I do not really know... but now and again, and am sure am not alone on this - we find ourselves waiting... Waiting for something to Happen that shocks us... excites us.... inspires us.... motivate us.... make us feel we are alive.... and for the most part, we are Waiting in vain.... and so, the only thing to do is SNAP OUT OF IT.... Maker things happen... Just Do!!!
Honestly, as most of you who knows me very well, knows how much I HATE to wait.... wait in lines for anything.... wait for something to complete a collection.... wait for results on any kind of designs that needs approval.... and most especially, wait for anyone... for anything....

in the meantime, here's a few INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES on the subject matter:
Random Quotes on WAITING

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.
Barack Obama
The man for whom time stretches out painfully is one waiting in vain, disappointed at not finding tomorrow already continuing yesterday.
Theodor Adorno
You can't stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.
A. A. Milne
We shall never have more time. We have, and always had, all the time there is. No object is served in waiting until next week or even until tomorrow. Keep going... Concentrate on something useful.
Arnold Bennett
Infuse your life with action. Don't wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen... yourself, right now, right down here on Earth.
Bradley Whitford

I mean I have many nieces and nephews already but never did I ever, get to see one of these in person.... NO I HAVE - and IT GAVE ME SUCH A WONDERFUL BLAST OF EXCITEMENT!!! So wonderful to see the baby - all 5cm of it... to see the profile and all... just AMAZING!!! No word yet if it's a boy or a girl - I think that happens next month... not that it should matter as it is BLESSING enough to have one on the way.... and Lyn & Shaun pretty much would be just as happy with either one....

A BIIIG CONGRATULATIONS to Shaun & Lyn for the baby... so far so good... the Doctor gave her TWO THUMBS UP !!!

star gazing again - "oh yeah!"

another star sighting happened yesterday afternoon, also while at SOGO admiring the Cherry Blossoms(See Previous Post.... this time it is with POP STAR, Crowd Lu, who bursts into the music scene a year or so ago.... his hip brand of music appeals to the teens who embraced not just his music but his style... with his big rimmed glasses, bowl cut do, & socks pulled up high - he single-handedly brought back the nerdy/dorky look in style....

Yesterday afternoon, he was making an appearance at the SOGO Department store to promote a product he endorses, "ettousais"...

i did have the pleasure of seeing him in a concert about a year ago, when he first burst into the scene.... he was the opening act for one of Taiwan's Premiere college bands, Mayday... and I must say, he does entertain.... his music are catchy even for a non-teen as I...

MTV VIDEO for his more popular song: "OH YEAH!"

Here in one of his Live Performances singing a song I like.

In Full Bloom

Nothing like the sight of Cherry Blossoms in full bloom to lift the spirits up -- especially when it is right in front one of Taipei's busiest, most frequented Department store, SOGO...

Walking about this afternoon, wandering aimlessly as I had a couple of hours to kill, found myself right on Chung Hsiao East Rd - one of Taipei's more popular shopping district... forgetting that it is the weekend, I found myself navigating through hordes and hordes of people, loud drum beats, loud speakers, and lo and behold - 3 full grown Cherry Blossoms... normally, one has to travel an hour up the mountains of Yan Ming San where Cherry Blossoms are the main attraction each and every spring time.... this time around, coinciding with a Japan Travel Promotion, SOGO (Japan's leading department store in Taiwan) transplanted 3 fully bloomed Cherry Blossom tress for all to admire, view, & of course, take photos with... and that WE ALL DID - HAPPILY!!!!

and to everyone's delight, we were treated to some Japanese dances by a number of dancers clad in regional Japanese clothings.

Capt Jack Lands on Wisteria Lane

Okay, so I have not seen the last 2 seasons of Desperate Housewives... but now, I have a reason to revisit the cul-de-sac - with the recent announcement that John Barrowman landing a 5 episode arc gig in the show... heard all this from the talented Mr Barrowman's voice, himself, while guesting on a fave Sunday BBC Radio Show, Elaine Page on BBC Radio...
And as if that is not enough... even got to hear him sing live in the studio -- singing UNUSUAL WAY from the movie NINE... this song is part of his newest CD Album... what treat!!! I was just thinkingm, when seeing NINE how I would love to hear a man sing this song - and lo and behold, not just any man - from one of my fave man alive....
As an added BONUS - am hearing BBC's TORCHWOOD, where John plays the multi sexual Captain Jack will be back for a 4th Season... WOW!!! now I gotta get my hands on the 5 episode 3rd season....

hop-ping for mr paul smith bunny!!!!

Now here is a BUNNY to WANT for Easter, and to LOVE FOREVER!!! The Paul Smith Bunny... offered as an Easter Promotional Gift, going on now in the UK... I believe, if you buy a bottle of the designers’ newest edition of his Rose fragrance, you’ll get the bunny (Paul Smith’s mascot) absolutely free! Paul Smith bunny has got the signature stripes, bendy legs and ears and he’s a good size – about a foot in height.

Paul Smith Rose Fragrance Summer Edition comes in a new ‘n stylin’ white glass bottle and as the name might have hinted to you, it’s a rose-based scent that’s very light, pleasant and perfect for any day. Now, Mr Bunny in the PROMO shot here below, is in the white version as well, suitably matching the new summer edition bottle... but I would rather get my hands on the black version - see photo top left.... but of course, beggars cannot be choosy - especially when depending on the kindness of friends and strangers - so either one will do.... so if anyone in the UK is reading and listening - HELP!!!!

hotness ensues....

Pretty much sums up what am feeling.... just too darn hot!!!
Hope you are all having a fairer weather in your neck of the woods....

Friday, March 12, 2010

it's just way TOO HOT!!!

Woke up feeling like my head was going to explode from the heat.... and it is just getting hotter and hotter as the day progresses....

THANK GOD was able to escaped a bit while watching Disney's Alice In Wonderland.... my only FREE time so I went ahead and saw it.. Good Thing as it is one of those MUST SEE IN THE BIG SCREEN movies..... contrary to what everyone I know feels about the movie, I LIKED IT!!! I liked that the movie was a bit drearier / darker than one wold expect from a movie about Lewis Carroll's Alice.... but hey, it is a Tim Burton film.... and throw in Johny Depp, Crispin Glover & Helena Bonham Carter for good measure - and you have one off-beat, zany, weird, artistically & visually pleasing of a film....
So my suggestion, do not wait for the DVD, escape the heat, the rain, or the snow - see it on the big screen....

getting u through the HUMP DAY!!!

I can't believe I MISSED another UNDERWEAR Fashion Show put on by Bench, Philippines.... Bench is the the country's leading fashion brand made locally - and made for the masses as the lines are very much affordable - and still, somewhat, rivals other International brands.... especially when it comes to their UNDERWEAR collection... BENCH possibly makes most of it's PROFIT from their UNDERWEAR SALES - and how could anyone MISS all the magazine ads and the GIANT BILLBOARD ads (that usually causes traffic - if not accidents!) on the freeway - with some of the country's TOP Celebrities and Models donning the sexiest (and tightest) undies available... and if one is LUCKY - you get to attend the brand's most sought after annual fashion show - still with the beautiful celebrities and models strutting their goods on the runways...

This Past FEB 27th - Bench Body held a Mini Fashion Show at the Mall of Asia - with one of the nation's current IT boy, Jake Cuenca, showcasing the brands new line of FLUORESCENT COLORED UNDIES - just in time for the summer.... alas, since it was done in a Mall - the models, and the star only disrobed as far as their HIPSTER pants, showcasing the fluorescent bands of their private garments....

The Current Ad Campaign for the NEON colored Bench Underwear with Jake Cuenca.

Though am never LUCKY enough to be in town for one of these sexy shows, I THANK GOD for YOU TUBE - I still, get to enjoy highlights from the shows... like the Vid capture below -- ENJOY....

Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want This Time

A Morrissey/The Smiths song that is a fave of mine that recently got another turn in the spotlight via the movie 500 Days (Of Summer, "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want This Time"

This version is by TINDERBOX from last year.... just came across the video again - and I love the animation video - so am sharing....
.

and here's Morrissey's Original from the SOUNDTRACK of 500 Days - TIMELESS!!!

A Day @ Sue n Cecilia's

it took 10 years but finally, we were able to make it at Sue n Cecilia's home, sweet home once more for a whole day of fun - chatting, admiring their collections, hanging out, and a Japanese dinner to boot.... and what a fun day it was!!!
First, David and I took the MRT at the Domestic Airport, where I had a chance meeting with Harlem Yu, a Taiwanese star/personality.... of course I took a photo with him!!! so am off to a good start already.... then we rode the MRT to meet up with Juliana and head on to the city of Wanfang where Sue n Cecilia picked us up at the station and drove us to their Sweet Home - just a few minutes away....

Upon entering, one cannot help but be soooooo overwhelmed, my how their home has changed over the years.... so much more cozier... and the collections have grown... and to my DELIGHT, they were all sprinkled about the rooms.... of course, I went to ADMIRE the Vinyl toys first and foremost.... (Sue btw, has been great enough to help Juliana & I add more to our Bearbrick collections... she is our NET AUCTION CONNECTION!) Bearbricks, Oli Bears, Peko & Poko, and DOLLIES Galore!!! Then it was time to admire their purchases from all their travels.... ornate knick knacks from Czech, Italy, Germany, France, etc... all of them just as WONDERFUL as the next - and each one, has a story to boot - just as they should be... I also got to admire Sue's collection of TRADING CARDS - mostly ALIAS as we are both BIIIIG FANS of trhis show.... I never even knew they existed so seeing them in person was a SPECIAL TREAT!!! We got to see other collections - of the JEWELRY sort.... would have taken photos of them too but thought it was much more personal.... so will just keep them FRESH in my mind for now....

Then we all headed on down to the neighborhood Japanese Restaurant for some dinner.... just as cozy as the ones you go to in Tokyo - so for a couple of hours there, it felt like I was back in Japan... Then it was back at the girls' home for some tea and a bit more chatting fest.... it was already close to 10PM by the time we headed back to catch the MRT... and if it was not too late, I sure would have loved to have stayed even longer... Oh well, there is always a next time - and hopefully, it wont be another 10 years in between... hahahahahaha

star gazing....part ?*^#!?....

Yesterday afternoon, I had another chance meeting with a local star/celebrity.... anybody who knows me, knows well enough that am a bit LUCKY in running into stars - and more than a bit, shameless to not pass the photo opt when the camera is handy... and most will argue that I try to have the camera handy all the time...This time around, we ran into Harlem Yu - one of the more popular Actor/Singer/Dancer in Taiwan but also known in most Chinese speaking countries, as he has been a host of many Popular Variety shows that is broadcast internationally... including the latest, 1,000,000 Song - where local celebrities come and sing along KARAOKE style and guess lines to songs... i watch it as I get to learn more Chinese songs this way... plus they usually have up and coming singers on the show...

Mr Harlem Yu was actually friendly... and without any hesitation, obliged to my photo request, holding up his assistants from checking in in the process... so if am not a fan then, am absolutely a fan now!!!

This is a song by Harlem Yu that I used to like as I find it very catchy - used to play it a lot... gotta find that CD once more...

"Let's Cafe" with Mark Chao

Mark Chao right now, has got to be Taiwan's Hottest Hunk! From modeling to TV Commercials, including his break out "Let's Cafe" ads for 7-11... to starring in Teen Soap Operas (and winning an award for Best Actor already on TV)... and now a full pledged movie star!!! This guy's flame burns fast and furious (just about 2 years in the biz)... and it seems that there is no signs of the fire burning out. The 24 year old actor was born in Taipei, Taiwan and grew up and educated in Canada.

Mark's Break Out Ad Campaign is for 7-11's "Lets Cafe"... I believe the TV commercial and the ads all over Taiwan just converted so many more into coffee drinkers....Mark, starred in the commercial with his actual dad. In the commercial, he plays an unsuccessful man in both love and work -- and turns to coffee to relieve his pressure. The company invited Mark's father, Zhao Shu Hai, to make a special appearance, relating coffee to the warmth that your family gives you.

Currently, Mark can be seen in the Taiwan Film, MONGA - based on the lives of a few misfits who grew up as gangsters in the 70's/80's Taiwan. This movie just added more to his HOTNESS STATUS in Taiwan. My feelings though about the movie, or the actors in it, including Mark, is quite different... that's for another BLOG though....

No Ordinary Housewife & her Boytoy

Really nothing this woman can do.... selling millions of records; thrilling young and adults alike in her concerts, more like events; dropping hot directors for even hotter dancers; motherhood (both natural and through adoption); shame women (and MEN!) half her age for being able to stay fit; and of course, the endless endorsements for some of the more luxurious fashion houses such as Versace (2005), Louis Vuitton (2009) & now the latest, Dolce & Gabbana (2010).
Just as soon as the Ad campaign for Louis Vuitton was ending, where Madge seductively enticed all to buy the luxury brand, looking great in her baby doll dress, Equestrienne clothing, etc - she thrills again, in Dolce & Gabbana's Newest Ad Campaign... this time around the Material Girl takes on the role of an Italian housewife - washing dishes, eating pasta, peeling onions, and of course, a few come hither me poses in the bedroom and out... and of course she does it all in style!!!

So whether you are a fan or not - you cannot deny that she is here to stay for a long, long time...

and as an added bonus for those who are following the material girl's love life - here's a photo of her SUPER HOT 23 year old boytoy, Jesus Luz. Himself a spokes model, famously for MASH UNDERWEAR - wowing Brazilians with his Giant billboards. Most recent, Jesus was featured in a Photo Essay devoted to none other than himself, in the January issue of INTERVIEW magazine.

Alas, during the interview there was no talks about Madonna, which makes one wonder... after all, isn't she the real reason why he crossed over to the US of A in the first place? The sole reason why we know of his existence in the first place? See, another reason to THANK La Madonna for!!!

Food For Thought

"The mere fact that you wake up everyday means it's another chance to be better..."
HAPPY DAY ALL!!!

Last Days of Chinese NY!

Last couple of days of Chinese NY was spent just roaming around Kaohsiung.... got to visit my most fave Kaohsiung mall, DREAM MALL... watch a few festival shows... Visit Jason at his work place and got to eat their TASTY food for the 2nd time.... and had a BLAST watching Liya & Xiao Pang do the Trampoline Jump.... probably the HIGHLIGHT of the Chinese New Year for us...
It was TRULY wonderful and entertaining to see XIAO PANG, full of enthusiasm and energy - harnessed on, going up and down, and trying his BEST to do the revolutions mid air... though he was not successful, you could tell that he had a blast - and for that matter, so did we all, just from watching his childhood enthusiasm....

he's a FIGHTER!

Newest introduction in the tokidoki X Be@rbrick world is this 100% Fighter...
He should be out and ready to fight any time now...

so keep checking tokidoki.it for more news on him and other tokidoki goodiess...

if I could ESCAPE....

First day of Mar... Spring is here!!! The weather is getting better and better.... and before it gets to be Summer time when it is just way too hot (almost everywhere in the world), people everywhere are planning their escapes / vacations... and rightly so as it is the time of the year when traveling is at it's best.... not too hot yet, and not too cold anymore... best for walking about and taking in the sights.... flowers are blooming.... and weather generally nice, so people everywhere are in a much more friendlier state...

so pick a location you have always wanted to go to... take enough time off... ESCAPE & ENJOY SPRINGTIME!!!
=========================
For Now I leave you a few quotes on ESCAPE:
As Mark Weiner puts it, whether you gain 50 pounds or lose 50 pounds, whether you have a sex change operation for that matter, that it doesn't matter, that there is some part of ourselves that we cannot escape. Todd Solondz

At 20, 25, 30, we begin to realise that the possibilities of escape are getting fewer. We have jobs, children, partners, debts. This is the part of us to which literary fiction speaks. Mark Haddon

Beauty for some provides escape, who gain a happiness in eyeing the gorgeous buttocks of the ape or Autumn sunsets exquisitely dying.
Langston Hughes

Desperation is the raw material of drastic change. Only those who can leave behind everything they have ever believed in can hope to escape.
William S. Burroughs

Every life is narrow. Our only escape is not to run away, but to learn to love the people we are and the world in which we find ourselves.
Mark Haddon

Faces that have charmed us the most escape us the soonest.
Walter Scott
