Been a while since i posted...  Must catch up...  

Let's start with something about Love - always a great start!

the last few days I have been watching the full season of Desperate Housewives.... have just finished catching up with Season 5 - and now am on to Season 6... yep yep...as always, am behind on my TV viewing - but that's another story....

From Season 5 - was reminded of the JOYS and PAIN of Human Desires... well, it is pretty much the same each episodes with a dash of back stabbing, gossiping, and murder.... but none more so as in one of the episodes... the Best part is the narrative at the beginning & the end part of this episode.... and it goes like this:

BEGINNING:
DESIRE.... it's an EMOTION designed to lead us ASTRAY...

-causing us to BUY things we CANNOT AFFORD...
-encouraging us to SAMPLE DESSERTS we do NOT NEED...
- and pushing us into LOVE AFFAIRS we are clearly not ready for...

ENDING:
-Persuading those who CRAVE LOVE to make FOOLISH CHOICES...
-Causing those who YEARN FOR FAMILY to ACT OUT in ANGER...
-Allowing those who are LONELY to BEHAVE in RECKLESS WAYS....

HECK!!! am not even one of the 7 TYPES.... what to do????

1. HOPEFUL OR ESCAPIST LOVE: When we fall in "love" (or something like it) because we imagine that the person we've fallen for will transform our lives, figuratively--in the sense of relieving our existential or psychological suffering--but often literally as well.

2. SAVIOR-COMPLEX LOVE: When we fall in "love" (or something like it) because we think that we can "save" the love object. Kind of the flip-side of escapist love.

3. SELF-LOATHING LOVE: When we fall in "love" (or something like it) because the other person treats us just as badly or as negligently as we think we deserve. (An extreme example of this would be a relationship where some kind of abuse--emotional, vituperative, physical--occurs frequently.) This is roughly the opposite of narcissistic love.

4. REDEMPTIVE LOVE: When we fall in "love" (or something like it) because we think the love object will redeem us--that his love will mean that our own lives are worthy or meaningful. Similar to escapist love, but maybe a bit more extreme, and less concerned with any literal transformation. (Cf. Dostoevsky.)

5. PRACTICAL LOVE: When we fall in "love" (or something like it) because we recognize that the other person has similar values and similar life goals, and we think that he or she can help us attain them.

6. ANATOMICAL LOVE: When we fall in love (or something like it) because the love object is so different, so exotic. He or she does things so differently from the way we do things that we are mesmerized and captivated. A.k.a.: the love that happens when "opposites attract." The opposite of narcissistic love.

7. NARCISSISTIC LOVE: When we fall in love (or something like it) because we see our own favorite qualities in the love object.

so this is the Quote of the Day I got below.... and it got me to thinking.... all through breakfast, showering, and getting ready.... I suppose it is a GREAT thing, as it can PUSH us to our LIMITS... to reach for the stars.... to attain all that we wish for and reach all our goals.... but what of the other side of it - where some actually fool themselves into believing they are who they think they are - they tell themselves this and they actually end up TRULY BELIEVING... then wouldn't their lives be just BASED ON LIES?

I have seen this TRAIT on someone very close to me... at first I tried to understand, IGNORED it, DEALT with it.... and in the end - it caused such a biiiig rift between us - a rift that could never, ever be repaired... a rift that even caused a bit of unwanted/ and very unnecessary dramas over this year's XMAS celebration....

I mean, I believe in: "to each his own"... "whatever gets you through the day".... or just the plain fact that people do NEED TO BELIEVE IN CERTAIN THINGS to get them through their days... but if these will cause HARM to others, to friendships, to relationships... and eventually, their own selves... then why CONTINUE? why not just BE REAL? didn't someone say to "just tell the truth then you do not have too much details to have to remember"....

oh well, in lieu of the Holiday Season, I suppose I will just let it be.... and just hope 2010 will be a much simpler and most of all, REAL!

weThink, weShare #4 - The Trouble With Love Is...

Just feeling like a SAP once more upon coming back to Taiwan, I decided to watch "Love Actually" again for the GOD only knows how many times now - I have lost count.... still the same bag of mixed emotions I get each and ever sitting... it is one of those movies I truly will never ever tire of... and it seems that each and every viewing - I pick up something I did not before -- as is in this case...

This time around, I got to really listen to the song; "The Trouble With Love Is.." - sung by Kelly Clarkson

The words are hauntingly true.... for me anyway.... I can totally relate.... line by line, I have at one point or another experienced pretty much all that is written in the lyrics.... the good stuff like hearing a symphony and wanting to shout out to the world about my love for someone.... but like a drug, love does make me blind from time to time, as am sure most of you can relate.... so much so that the heart is torn into pieces....

Still, there is no escaping when love beckons.... the minute my heart flutters for someone - like a moth to a flame, am there... wholeheartedly.... cautions thrown in the wind.... no reservations whatsoever.... against everyone else's warnings.... I just go with the flow of things -- doing the BEST I can, making the most of all, hoping for the BEST LOVE has to offer....
