Pinoy Sunday Treat
Then, on some Sundays, like today for instance, I get to have some Pinoy Food... mostly the desserts but today I actually got to have a couple of my Fave dishes for lunch: Pinakbet and Menudo... then of course the Ginatan dessert.... all YUMMY and makes me feel like am back in Manila once more...
Now and then, when I have more time - I check out the Pinoy magazines and DVDs for sale... am not much for the movies as mostly, I do not know the actors and I have seen a few that really left a bad taste in my mouth... so if not recommended, I do not tend to buy.... mostly I look for concert videos, as I prefer to listen to the music more... I can play them without actually having to watch... just to hear some good old OPM, while I work or clean the house...Today I was in luck, a new GARY VALENCIANO Music Special DVD just came out - and i snapped a copy right away... I was, I still am, elated over it... and now I have seen it a couple of times already... His music, his songs, though some are 20 plus years old - he manages to always bring on a fresh take in each and every concert of his... not that they need it, his music are timeless : both message and melody... I highly recommend you to get a copy... Sir Gary V. - Mr Pure Energy, as he is called in the local BIZ - and his music will forever be a Favorite of mine...

OPM Galore!
OPM stands for ORIGINAL PINOY MUSIC, Pinoy being a nickname for Filipino... So much about it just draws me in... the simplicity of it... the sappiness... the heartbreak... the joy.... and all other emotions that comes from listening to it...
Maybe it is the fact that I grew up in the US and besides, an occasional Gary Valenciano CDs, brought over to me by my sis during her many trips, I really did not get my fill of Pinoy music... so now I am making up for lost time...
Each and every visit to Manila - i tend to listen to the radio more when am home, hardly turn on the telly.... I try to listen and discover old and new faves... sometimes when am in the car, i would here a song that will strike a chord with me and I have to find out right away who is it by.. and try to see if anyone I know has the CD so i can listen to the rest....I have sooo many faves... mostly male singers with pure manly voices... Mark Bautista, Ariel Rivera, Rico Blanco, Basil Valdez, Martin Nievera, Ogie Alcasid, and of course my ultimate fave, Gary Valenciano. Others like Jed Madela & Christian Bautista, though I admire their singing styles, I tend to pass up on as their voices register higher than the manly voices I prefer... but now and again, i discover someone whose voice, albeit higher, just oozes with so much emotion and sweetness, that registers in me and I end up liking - Nyoy Volante is one of the newer discoveries for me... his original songs and covers of timeless oldies are just too sweet and heartfelt... thus making him a new FAVE of mine... so it was such a treat for me, like hitting the jackpot, when my family gave me a few CDs this time around, knowing that I would love them all...like winning in the lottery...

Gary V X 3
It AMAZES me that it has been 25 years (and counting) that I have been a BIG FAN of the very talented, Mr Gary Valenciano!!! He is one of the very first PINOY ARTIST I ever really liked!! As we all know, artists come and go... our tastes changes, as we grow older... but am very HAPPY to say that my admiration for Gary and his beautiful voice has never waned....
First discovered him back in the late 80's ... growing up in San Francisco, Calif... "Di Na Natuto" I heard playing from a friend's car and it was an instant LOVE for the artist and the song.... had to go to Daly City and get my own copy of the CD right away.... THANK GOD for the big Filipino Community in that part of the BAY AREA - there were shops that carried his CDs... From then on I was hooked... each and every album I had to get -- either purchased on my own or sent to me by friends and family from Manila....
"Sana Maulit Muli" hits close to home with me --as it was the song dedicated to me by a former love one. A Love Lost but nevertheless, still felt. ..and my third most FAVE by Mr V is, "Ikaw Lamang" -- this was chosen by the family to be played/sung (twice in fact!) during my Dad's funeral back in 2006... so it is very close to my heart.
Certainly the list of FAVES does not stop there.... each and everyone of his songs recorded has been overplayed by me -- and will continue to be played on for many more years to come....
Of course, the admiration runs much more deeper -- not only is his voice one of the BEST I have ever heard... his music has also been such an inspiration -- each and everyone of them.... and to read more about him: his devotion to his craft, his family & love ones, and of course, to GOD - is simply INSPIRATIONAL...
