Lantern Festival 2014

Be sure not to miss this year's Lantern Festival display happening now at the various Taipei Flora Expo Pavilions in the Jhongshang district.
An abundance of Glorious, Amazing, Creative, whimsical, wonderful lanterns
to thrill the young and old alike.
Had the pleasure of visiting and admiring them earlier this week with Juju...  Lights are turned on by 5:30PM... And a light show everynite at about 7:30PM.  We were lucky enough to get there just a little after 5PM so not too many people yet..
This is one of my most FAVE pieces on display...  Dragon, of course!

Marvelous Peter Pan Diorama!!!

The drops if rain did not bother us st all..  Way too many nice lanterns to thrill us.. And in some cases the rain is even an added touch as the lanterns' reflections on the wet grounds added to the beauty of it all!

The God of Love!!!

Not Your Mama's Lanterns!!!

The Annual lantern Festival is upon us once more.....   always right after the Chinese NY festivities....  all over Taiwan, each and every town have their own arrays/varieties of Lanterns on display for this festival....  ornate, handmade, beautiful, colorful and gigantic ones to marvel at....   Each and every year, it so happens that the festival is also quite a wet one , as the rainy season ensues during the month of February...
But this does not stop revelers into coming out for a succession of nites and enjoy the festivities....   gorgeous lanterns to view, as well as, the Happy faces on all the attendees....  RAIN and all.....  Myself Included!!!

First nite of Lantern watching was done at the SunYetSan Memorial Hall area.... annually, it has been done here and the exhibit is quite large....   just as last year, I went on my own - not minding the rain and enjoying all of it....  even got to take in a pretty cool exhibition (FOR FREE!) about Life in Taiwan over the Decades....  Here's a few photos but you can see more by Clicking Here:
The Following nite... with the weather a whole lot better, i took the bus to the Taipei City Hall area as they were having their own Lantern Exhibition...  not quite as big as the one in the Sun Yet San - but it was none-the-less IMPRESSIVE and FUN....  plus quite a variety of lantern designs on diplay....  DRAGONS included, of course!!!

Lantern Festival 2010

One of the BEST Festivals/Holidays celebrated in Taiwan has got to be the Annual Lantern Festival! One beautiful float of creative lanterns (all lit up!), after another, are on display for all spectators to revel in. Each year, the festival focuses the welcoming of the current Lunar Year Sign - this year is the Year of the Tiger. So most of the exhibit on displays are on this theme Add Image- Tigers in all forms are celebrated.

This year also focused on the upcoming International Floral Exhibition that will be held in Taipei come Nov 6th thru April 25th, 2011. So along with the many incarnations of the Tiger, floats after floats of were devoted in the promotion of the upcoming International Event. An exhibition of some of the countries participating in the event were on hand, led by Macau.. each country diorama consists of a mini recreation of a particular site that defines the country, surrounded by the country's National Flower, and a little blurb about each nation. For someone who has the TRAVEL BUG like me, it was definitely eye catching!!! I spent a long time just admiring each diorama...
