how do you measure HAPPINESS?

Happiness means sooo many different things for so many of us..... some with goods we acquire; some with the culinary treats we consume; some the experiences from the travels we do; a night out with friends or that special someone; and of course, times shared with family.... in my book, they re all good... these and many other little things can bring so much Happiness in one's life.... Last week, I had just that.... a few of that really.... but lacking a god NET CONNECTION, I was not able to share them - so will have to catch up this week and share what I can, as time permits...

Possibly the BEST source of HAPPINESS for me this trip to see and be with Mom, happened when we were able to attend Mass together at Antipolo Cathedral.... it meant so much to me, as my Mom made extra efforts, mustered up a lot of strength to fulfill a promise made to me last XMas.... that on my next trip, she will be strong enough to attend Mass with me. And though I could see such Pain in her eyes, went she did... with me and my Stepfather....

It was such a great feeling being there with her... not only because I knew she was doing this to fulfill a promise to me... but I could also see that it was something she wanted to really do.... and made her happier that she was able to get ut and do this.... gave her bit more hope - and not just feel that she is to just wait for the time to come - just sitting on her sofa, that she also sleeps in... and stare out longingly -day in, day out.... such an emotional thing, seeing her do her rosary with tears streaming down her face.... i actually had to go out towards the end - so as i can let my own tears fall without her seeing....

Though the church is just 15 mins away by Tricycle from her home, it still took it's toll as the road is not too smooth.... the bumps on the road can took a bit of strain on her frail condition... but the trooper that she is, you could not even see it in photos - as she willingly smiled.... and this smile, for me, was worth so much more than diamonds and gold....

Everyday that we have my Mom in this life, is a MIRACLE for me.... have to Treasure each and every single moment with her....

BUT THIS MOMENT, FOREVER I WILL HOLD EVEN MORE SPECIAL!

Yes!!! What a way to start the New Year.... Yesterday David bought himself an iPad2 - after months of coaxing by, not only myself but also his Lyn & Shaun.... We were correct all along... We knew he would love it instantly and enjoy having it.... Already he has downloaded sooooo many different applications... And he is not to be seen without it.... Before going to bed.. And as soon as he awaken... LOL....

Today, he Decided to get one for his sister, Liya.... And while at the shop, he also decided I need one, too... Who am I to argue... :). So VOILA! I have me an iPad2, Finally! And this being my first BLOG post using it....

made it through XMas... SIGH

this week I have been here with my Mom was very much like an emotional (and physical) roller coaster... not just for her (going trough it all) but for me and her husband.... she had so many episodes of ups and downs.... no sleeping but just writhing in pain.... moments when she just wants to give up.... and luckily, at times, just moments when she can just sit still for an hour, look out the window, watch the children play outside and just reminisce with me about her life, our (her children) lives when we were still with her.... Memories of our grandparents (her parents) when I was just a little kid.... as well as our Dad, who left us when I was barely two.... whom I did not see again till I was about 12.... Her stories were full of love, happiness - even in the last stages of their marriage - and, of course, like most stories go - suffering and longing.... Most of the sufferings were from the hands of my first stepfather - who was a bit vicious and abusive... but those memories I have long forgotten and got over with..... I was just glad our Dad did not fully abandoned us and brought us to the US.....

She did mention to me all the pain & sorrow she went through from the time our Dad contacted her about bringing us to the US.... going to the Embassy and signing the papers to give our Dad full custody of us.... seeing us off and not seeing us for a looong time after..... all I could IMAGINE is how hard must it be to sign papers giving up your children for good - no matter how one knows it is for the good of the children's future - it still must be quite heartbreaking and such a very hard decision to make.... one she did wholeheartedly for us.... and one that we did not even think of, and some of us still do not think of.....

Then I told her stories of our lives in the US.... with my Dad.... with school... and my older sister and brother - when we were all still close... so much moments, fun, stupid, crazy times - trying to manage our lives in the US - with a Dad that was hardly there.... leaving us with a different stepmother every now and again.... and of course, coming of age and striking out on our own.... my first job, etc... etc.... Just stories of all the times we spent away from her.... Mostly the POSITIVE parts so as to not get her sad....

This we did night after night when it is just the two of us left - wide awake in the wee hours of the night till dawn breaks - as her sleeping clock is sooooo off.... As much as it was great to hear these stories - it still and to this very end - breaks my heart each and every nite.... all the longing.... she still longs... long for the children who are away working..... long for the ones around but does not come around.... and long for one who cannot find it in his heart to even call her - knowing the state of her condition....

Anyway, we still had a Merry Little Xmas - just the three of us : Me, My Stepfather and my Mom.... My stepfather cooked Pinoy style Spaghetti and made Buko Fruit Salad.... I got a cake from the bakery... and some neighbours gave us other stuff... shared their blessings with my Mom - who is well liked in the area.... we waited till 12 midnite and welcomed and celebrated the birth of Baby Jesus..... gave them their presents - which delighted them both - no matter how small it is.... ate as we listened to XMas music..... and chatted as we cleaned up....

Around 2 am, as my stepfather sleeps - my Mom and I were left alone once more... she spoke of happiness that at least one of her children was with her on this day... so she did not feel so abandoned and alone..... she was happy... but something triggered in her and she started crying again.... talking of giving up as she did not want to be a burden anymore and see us suffer through her suffering.... As much as i have been strong in front of her the last few days - this time around, tears came - run in front of her, as I tell her she must not give up for us..... she should want to live longer for us and share more memories... and just let things take their natural course.... let it happen when it is time..... we were like this till the brek of dawn..... and she finally fell asleep a little after 5 AM.... and I sat by her, thinking... caressing her head.... holding her hand and crying till my stepfather got up and it as my turn to sleep.... Sweet & Sad XMas but I would not TRADE it for anything in the world.....

I will FOREVER be HAPPY and THANKFUL for making it through another XMAS with my Mom.... and can only Pray & Hope for one more..... a long shot but definitely worth praying for....

Twas The Night Before XMas..

Almost time for the 8PM Mas at Antipolo Church... Am waitting outside the cathedral waiting for it tow commence... Been doing this the last few nights... Simbang Gabi (Night Mass) as it is called is quite big here.. A family tradition for years - families, lovers, friends attends together to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ...

Sadly, i have been coming alone... My Mom is just much too weak to even ride anything to come here... And my stepfather has to stay and watch over her.. But each night, my Mom makes sure that i eat early, get dressed to attend on my own... Something I do willingly... Not only because i love churches, the music, and the lights but because my Mom believes it helps her feel better, get through, another night...

So as sad as it is for me, at this time, to see families attending together - I get by as thoughts of Mom gives me reason enough to muster the strength to be here alone in the midst of all these happy people, and give thanks and pray.... And wish that it really does help, especially since last nite was another tough one....

If only I could take away the pain..

3AM: Wide awake once more.. Caressing my Mom's head as she falls in and out of sleep...She fell asleep on the new sleeper about9:30pm , I stayed with her till 11pm and since she did not wake, I went to sleep..

Woke up at midnite as I hear her calling out my name... she was, is, in so much pain... And we could not give her another pain medicine as she just took one before sleeping...So I sit with her, tell her stories, caress her head, make her laugh - all in hopes that she can forget the pain and rest comfortably...

Now she is asleep again, but she wakes and cries out now and again... am letting her hubby sleep so he can get a bit of rest, too..4AM: my Stepfather is finally awake... Now it is my turn to sleep for a few hours...

At the Taoyuan International Airport now... Got here in plenty of time... Too much anxiety so I just wanted to get here... Sit in quietness and refresh the mind for when I see Mom... Thanks to Jewel, Lyn, Shaun and David for taking me out for a little bit - dinner and a stroll at Warner/Mitsukoshi area...

Taking in the lights, the live entertaients and enjoying the night air... Though it was all fun and exciting, it was still quite hard to keep smiling when my heart and my thoughts are already in Manila... In wanting to see Mom and see what I can do for her now... Just to somehow alleviate her of pain.. Even just a bit...As happy as I am to be getting to her soon - am also Sad and Scared as to what is to come...

This afternoon when i was talking to my Mom, in her mumbly voice, i could make her out saying: " it's Christmas time, but I do not feel it.". I guess, even without me telling her so, we share the same sentiments...Check in counter opening soon... Am in live with sp many others - i ca see all their excitement and happiness as they will be with love ones soon to celebrate this festive season... Am smiling but I can only wish I share their sentiments...

Been FREEZING COLD the last few days here in Taipei..... rainy, gloomy, wet.... pretty much the same each year I suppose - but somehow, this year, it feels even colder, even gloomier, and looks even wetter everywhere I look.... maybe part of it is the fact that I find myself in tears, now and again, each and everyday.... At times, it feels as if soooo much is bottled up inside - trying soooo hard to get out....

Anyway, each and everyday, I just try my best to stay focus.... keep busy.... and do just about anything to keep my mind occupied in between the waiting... waiting for the day of my flight - which is coming up FINALLY..... and now I feel even more ANXIETIES.... so much BITTERSWEETNESS ... as much as am HAPPY I will finally get to see Mom and spend the time with her - fulfill my PROMISE of being there for XMas - am soooo scared and sad as to what is waiting - what is to be..... The last few days, each and everytime I call her, we go through so much emotions.... she cries and cries... in pain both physically and emotionally.... all I can do is pretend to be strong and calm her down, as tears flows....

So am scared of what is to be... scared of all the decisions I might have to face..... and all happening at what is my MOST FAVE TIME OF THE YEAR - ever since childhood.... as far as I can remember.... Christmas has always been a time of Joy & Good Cheer... no matter where I may be... no matter with someone, with family, with friends, or even alone.... I still REJOICE when this time comes - as it ALWAYS seem to hold so much promise, so much love, so much miracle... and not just for me but for all....

So here it is once more... only this time, I have yet to really feel the spirits of XMas.... as much as I have been admiring all the festivities I see and hear - Xmas Carols & Decorations - I have yet to get that feeling I often get as the days get closer to XMas... I can only HOPE and PRAY that it will all change as soon as I see Mom... it has to - at least this is what she needs to see from me - as she too, knows how I Love this time of the year....

A BIIIG THANK YOU to my friend, Danny for sending out the YUMMYLISCIOUS, Home Baked, Freshly Made Cookies all the way from Bangkok.... it warmed not just the TUMMY but the Heart, as well... as you can see, Jewel and I enjoyed them right away!!!

Last nite on the way to Roahe Market and WuFanFu for a bit of XMas shopping, we happen upon a Camel.... yes, you read that right, a CAMEL - not in the ZOO mind you, not even a traveling circus but just right in the middle of Taipei City!!!

The camel, along with a few other animals was brought out by a local Charity group to entertain and liven up their festivities for the nite... they were sponsoring an XMas gathering and feeding the homeless and the needy, and just about anyone else who care to join in on the festivities.... the people behind it were dressed in olden garbs... same as what Mary & Joseph used to wear - and the added a few animals around to give a bit more old time feel to it all...

I was soooo AMAZED and taken aback... Jewel on the other hand was a bit scared and would not pet/touch the camel.... still could not pass up the opportunity - still got a snap with us and the camel... :) one to remember for years to come - am sure!!!

Tokidoki Fans are in for a treat for the Holidays!!! New tokidoki charms are being offered as a Special Premium Toys Offering by the 7-11 Shops in Hong Kong.... Just like the ones in Taiwan - one will be able to avail them by collecting stickers one gets when they buy from their local 7-11 Convenience Store shops....

From what I can make out, as I really cannot read Chinese (LOL!) - there will be two sets available... one collection debuted on the 7th of this month (December 2011) and another will make their appearance starting the 11th of January, 2012.... A total of 22 Hello Kitty x tokidoki keychain figures fans in Hong Kong will be able to collect…

It is now Friday, the rain has come again.... Cold out there, and even colder inside...

TORN... but HOPEFUL.....

Since Mom was rushed back to the Hospital for a second time this month, it has been somewhat HELLISH for me the last few days..... not thinking too clearly, not being able to focus, and worse of all, not sleeping well.... somehow I just keep feeling something is amiss... of course, most of it is due to the fact that all mu thoughts are with my Mom and what she is going through right now....

She suffered a mild stroke... incapable again of even getting up from her bad without help from anyone... and for that matter, it is just her husband - my stepfather - who is with her... and at times, the kind neighbours, helping to put her to sleep or just to watch her for a bit to relieve my stepfather.... He is really having a hard time of it all right now, and I can only IMAGINE the thoughts going through his mind - as to see your partner of so many years, the mother of your child deteriorate each and everyday..... For all his suffering and kindness to my Mom - I Thank Him! Though we never really had any kind of a relationship, nor did I really ever get to know him, I Thank and Appreciate all that he is doing for my Mom - and all of it for Love.... this gives me even more Comfort and Hope.... More than I can say for some other family that should be there - even just emotionally.... but I will refrain now from saying anything about them.... must keep thinking of the Positive parts of what is going on now....

Last night was another looong nite for me.... I was even on the phone with them well past 1AM... my Mom was just in such pain that she could not even put herself to sleep.... I am soooo scared that the time has come:

- when all the drugs are no longer helping..

-when there is no other thing that can help but to confine my Mom to the Hospital and get her hooked up on morphine or whatever else they need to do - so as she does not feel too much pain... but thus leaving her incoherent and lost in her own world for most of the time...

I know this is eventually to come.... I have been told by the doctors.... I was always told to be prepared, and I try, but I am not.... I still want to hang on to Hopes that this is just due to the stroke she suffered a few days ago... and that the Breast Cancer Meds will still get through her all of these and she will somewhat bounce back once more.... so we monitor her condition.... have told my Stepfather what doctor has said... up her pain killers and see if that helps the next few days... if not, then we take her to the hospital....

Another reason why I am soooo adamant about this move, is that, this is the one thing my Mom have told us she did not want.... she has said that if the time comes - just let it be.... she does not want her life prolonged in the hospital but becoming a vegetable in the process... to her, that is NOT LIVING..... which is what I believe, as well... and a wish of hers, I want to RESPECT....

But it sure is getting harder.... hearing her cry and mumble the pain she is feeling on the phone with me leaves me helpless and torn.... I do not want her to suffer from so much pain.... I do not want her to go through so much of these without me by her side.... If I could, I would just fly back now and just be with her - but with so much more to be done, i cannot do so till sometime next week.... actually I have a Ticket already for the 18th, to spend XMas with her - as promised - but now am TORN if I should get there sooner.... it would certainly DEVASTATE me if anything happens to her and am not around.... I take comfort with my friends, Juliana & Lyn's words: that "my Mom will be there waiting for me - no matter what...."

So now, I try to finish all that I need to... just sad that things seems to not be going my way as another delivery that was supposed to come to me here - ended up in America - so now I wait longer for them to arrive.... why, oh why now even this mix up has to happen.... In between work, I run to wear myself out.... I listen to music to cheer me up.... I organize this and that to take my mind off things - even for a bit.... and I Hope & Pray...

Trying to get into the Spirits of XMas...

and the OPERATIVE word there is TRYING... :(

Most of you who knows me well, knows well enough that XMas is still my most FAVE Holiday... ever since childhood it has been.... I love everything about it... from picking out the perfect tree for the year.... decorating it.... watching the lights glow as I admire the finished, fully decorated tree... presents shopping..... getting dress to visit family and friends to hang out, feast and just feel the love..... EGG NOG, PUMPKIN COOKIES, and yes, even the FRUIT CAKE!!! LOL....

This time around, with the way things are going with my Mom's Health, it has been so hard for me to get into the Spirits of XMas..... less than 20 days away and I have not really put that much thought about it.... all I could think of is getting to Manila and spending XMas with my Mom, as I promised her.... and with the two recent run back to the Hospital for her, more recent one for what seems to be a mild stroke, a couple of days ago - am really more anxious to get to her.....

Right now, I am just trying to keep myself busy with work and projects..... taking care of jewel and roaming the city, come rain or shine, just to keep my mind clear and alo tire myself out, so as to be able to sleep - been restless the last couple of nights....

and with hopes to get more into the SPIRIT of things, I even tried to put something up to remind me more of XMAS.... played with photographing some FAVE things in XMAS themes....

and even went XMas card shopping.... now if I can only MUSTER some ENERGY (Mentally and Emotionally) to make them out in time for XMAS..... we'll see.....

...Really Do Get You Down!!!!

Woke up this morning with a really strangely off feeling, as if something is not right.... chuck it all of to the fact that it is Monday and yes, Raining once again.... i said to myself, "Yeah, That's it,,, so SNAP out of it, get you ASS out of bed and get cracking with work.... this in turn will make you SNAP out of this strange feeling you are having....."

So like with all my mornings, I get our of bed; make the bed; wash face/brush teeth/morning pee pee; then I turn on the computer while making coffee.... and enjoy the fresh cup(s) of coffee as I answer emails; check on things; and check in with FB....

All was going well, nothing bad... nothing unusual.... then suddenly, at half past 10AM - I get a PM from my cousin: "rudi plss call bout mommy emergency!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Right away I was in a frenzy, trying to call long distance to Manila but was having a terrible time and could not connect.... maybe the rain, maybe the International Calling Service... whatever... it took me another 20 mins before I could connect.... Spoke with my Mom's husband - sadly, most of the time I also cannot make out what he is saying.... and when he is frazzled like this, even worse.... the jist of it was that my Mom just suddenly fell, left side paralyzed, and mumbles when she is trying to talk.... a Stroke is the first thing that came to mind.... So I asked what is going on at that time, to which he replied: "Am waiting for you or Cholo (my half brother) to call as I need to take her to the Hospital but I have no money..." Right away, I was burning - could feel myself turning red with frustrations.... I mean, I would have taken her to the Hospital first then worry about the $$$.... I calmly (as calm as I could) told him: "Pls take her to the Hospital now.... and see have her look over... and I will deal with the money issues after.... " This seemed to work and he was a bit at eased...called for a cab to take them to the hospital....

An hour ago I checked and my Mom was already put to sleep... more new meds needed.... change of meds for one thing or another.... my Stepfather is still unclear - so I need to wait till the Doctor is around - so I can understand more.....

Am soooooooo frustrated..... with the situation... I mean I cannot blame my stepfather for having apprehensions regarding money matters... that is just the way things are..... I am more frustrated that being here in Taiwan, I could not do more for my Mom.... and that really besides my Stepfather, there is no one else taking care of my Mom.... Can only be glad that my cousin is close enough, can be reached by them all the time to get word out to me.... as is the case this morning.....

Most of all, am frustrated and saddened with the turn of events.... I feel my Mom is going through enough with having to deal with Breast Cancer - she need not be paralyzed as well.... I am soooo afraid as to how she will be affected by these new events.... I am soooo afraid of how how all these will affect her physically......

So now I wait a bit longer to hear what the Doctor has to say.... run a few work errands in the rain - which made me frustrated even more...... how can I concentrate and focus when I have too much anxieties running through my brains..... right now, all I could do is try to write my feelings down here - just to get some of these anxieties out of my system.....

Waiting, like Rainy Days and Mondays - at times - really gets to me.... :(

OKINAWA DAY 3: Eternal Sunshine, NOT!!!

In all the brochures I have read - it states that Okinawa prides itself as an "Eternal Sunshine City".... well, I must have brought the rain with me as, since arriving, it has been a bit on the cloudy side... drizzling on the second day and the third day was full on rain... BOO HOO!!! Still it did not deter us from going around and enjoying the day..... started off by buying the 1 day pass... for 680yen, one can really go from one end of Okinawa to the other - VIA MONORAIL..... not bad considering it almost costed us that much to take the Monorail from the Airport to the city.... well, we did not know then... hahahahahahaha...

First (QUICK) stop, after breakfast, was the Duty Free Shop.... mainly just to admire their building, and the window displays.... and it did not fail to IMPRESS..... it was quite nice.... lots of people/tours from China - so am sure they make the big bucks.....

And with the rain letting up a bit, we decided ti was time to head onto Shuri Area and check out the highly recommended Shuri Castle... As they say, you cannot come to Okinawa without visiting this Castle where centuries and centuries ago - envoys from all over Europe and Asian Kingdoms have visited to pay tribute and have a big-to-do ceremony with the current Emperor.

The grounds are kept well.... and sadly, but in a good way, the actual parts of the Castles are none original.... most have been rebuilt, refurbished, recreated for today's revelers.... and we are told right down to the exact detailing, accents and colors. Walking through it all, one cannot help but be AMAZED and even, FANTASIZE and WONDER what it would be like to live in such SPLENDOUR! Aaaaaaaaah.... maybe in another lifetime..... :)

After the Castle, we walked a bit more around the grounds... checked out other parts of the City of Shuri, then headed on to another destination: the Seaside.

Okinawa Day 2

With the weather just the right amount of gloominess, and still no rain, we decided to make a day of it traveling to ocean side town of American Village.,. to take in the views, the shops, food that reminds one of San Francisco, and dip in the famous Hot Springs/Pool of Chula U Therma Village...

The ride was almost an hour aay by bus from our Hotel.... ...and ten minutes away from the actual town - one already gets the jist of what the American Village is about... with the US Base around and shops looking and selling US goods.... including our FAVE that sells US Military goods: clothing, boots, posters, tees, hats, memorabilias, etc.... even McDonals Happy Meal Toys!!!! DICKIES, brand wear abound and fly jackets in different colors and sizes are MUST HAVES!!! And around this place, one can just window shop from one shop to the next and never tire.....

Right after the seaside lunch picnic (SUSHI, SASHIMI & fresh baked bread...) we ventured on to Chula U Therma Villa Resort ... looks good and inviting from the outside... and yes, even more so inside.... The outdoor pools are COED shared, but there are more Private ones where Men and Women are separated - hotter springs, hotter saunas, and private showers.... which I was able to enjoy all of... :)

But before all that, I had the HORROR - yes, HORROR! - of experiencing the FOOT DOCTOR Water Pool... this is where you dip you feet in a pool of little fishies who FEASTS on your dead skins... quite popular in Japan, CHina and parts of Europe - I, myself, could not get into it.... it just tickled the HELL out of me..... One is alloted 10 mins each dip - as there is only one pool - but I could not even last 5 mins.... I just kept squirming and giggling with each and every bite the fishes take on me.... so I had to opt out faster thn my alloted time.... All I can say is that, am glad I can FINALLY say I ahve experienced this - but, NEVER AGAIN!!! hahahahahahaha....

Got back to Kokusai Area after 5PM.... we transfered to our new Hotel, which will be our home for the next two nights.... and took a bit of a break.... later that nite, it was back to Kokusai Street...walking up and down the long shopping Boulevard and taking in more of the flavours of NAHA..... plus dinner, of course!!! Retired at almost 11PM..... another looooong day of sightseeing the next day!!!!

OKINAWA TRIP - Day 1: Early XMas Gift

As promised, come rain or shine, I have to be in Manila and spend XMas with my Mom.... this I will do come the 18th of DEC.... but because of VISA purposes, I needed to get out of Taiwan so as to not overstay..... David comes to the rescue.... he gave me my early XMas gift: A 3 Day Trip to Okinawa!!! Am happy as it is a place I have yet to see/visit - though I have been in Japan many times before.... and the flight is under one hour - even closer than flying to Manila.... and as an added bonus it is called an Eternal Summer City.... looking forward to that as it has been cold and rainy in Taipei the last few days....

So early on the 26th of Nov., we took the shuttle bus at 5:30AM to head on to the International Airport.... this time around, Terminal 2... not often for me to fly out of here... actually, only my 2nd time ever! Flight was at 8:30 AM and we were in Okinawa by a little past 9AM!!! Getting to the city was quite easy... thanks to Okinawa's Monorail that runs through the island, really.... checked in the Hotel for the nite - then we were off to explore the city....

First up was running into this little quaint place called BENTO... yes, just freshly cooked and packaged meal as you wait, served in Bento Box for all to enjoy.... inexpensive, fresh and TASTY!!! Nice first taste of OKINAWA....

... then we walked 15 minutes over and we were on KOKUSAI Street - Naha's main shopping district.... Specialty Shops, Big Department Store (well 2 only really - Mitsukoshi being one of them), Cafes & Restos, Souvenir Shops, all one could ever need and think of - on a Major Tourist/Hang Out District.

From here, we decided to walk on over to UNIQLO, in the OROKU area.. instead of taking the Monorail - we decided to take a walk so as we can also enjoy some sights of the city... get a feel and taste the flavour of Okinawa streets..... It was a nice day for it, too.... No Sun - but not too cloudy, still a beautiful Saturday - and walking by the city's main park and Stadium, it was GREAT to see people enjoying the day... Locals and Tourists alike just enjoying the day...

Got to UNIQLO in less than an hour.... not a hard walk at all as the city is pretty flat, too.... UNIQLO is on the 2nd floor of the AEON Department Store.... not as big as the ones in Tokyo, or even Taipei for that matter - still it was quite packed with both goods and people.... AMAZING to always see the cool casual clothing in regular Japan Retail - definitely cheaper than in Taiwan.... Enjoyed AEON a few more hours... had some snacks at Mister Donut (Happiness is MISDO campaign with the SNOOPY Gang is too cute to pass up... :) and then walked back to Kokusai Street to check out dinner choices....

Fresh Sushi & Sashimi plus SOBA noodles for dinner on one of the many restos on the 2nd level of the Heiwadori Market did not disappoint as the dinner choice.... filling... tasty.... and fresh.... Nice Choice for dinner, indeed..... walked around a bit more... and picked up a few things for desserts and late nite snacks and headed back to the Hotel.....

I cannot even remember now that last Thanksgiving I have celebrated.... this is the 12th year I am not celebrating - yes, that looooong!!! I, too, cannot believe it.....

Though memories are all a bit jumbled up now of many Thanksgiving past - so many of these memories are still pretty fresh in my mind... and even more so, in my heart..... Thanksgiving with dear friends.... quiet moments with past love ones (not so many, mind you... hahahahahaha) .... having Thanksgiving dinners for some friends and co-workers who could not go home to their respective families; worse, who did not have families to go home to.... delivering meals to those who did not have families to go celebrate with through Chicken Soupers, and other various charities...

They were, they are, my families.... having grown up pretty much on my own - I was LUCKY ENOUGH to have had them all at separate times in my life.... they made my Thanksgiving complete and forever I will be THANKFUL to them - for touching my life one way or another....

And now another Thanksgiving is upon us.... lately, it feels as if I have less and less to be THANKFUL for.... with business the way it is.... with the way things have been with my family - near and far..... and of course, with the way things are with my Mom.... just the other day I spoke with her on the phone...checking in.... and even thousands of miles apart - I could hear the pain in her voice.... all i can do is try to not let on of my feelings and sorrows and just to be BRAVE and STRONG for her... something that is getting harder and harder to do as time goes by.... And just tonight, am reminded that it has been 8 months ago since the time my MOM went through her last complete physical... the time the doctor basically said she is LUCKY to have a year left in her...Has it really been that long already? Is this why she has been feeling worse and getting health complications lately? Is she feeling something that she is not telling us - in her way, trying to be Brave and Strong for us, too? I guess only time will tell....

For now, I will just be THANKFUL for all the days she is not in so much pain.... for the times she is able to get up and down the stairs on her own.... for the smiles I see in her, still.... for all the stories and memories she has been sharing with me - of her childhood, of my childhood, of our families... for reminding me something I almost always forget - that in the end, we only have one life and we MUST LIVE IT THE BEST WAY WE CAN. DO WHAT MAKES US HAPPY WITHOUT HARMING OTHERS, AND FIND HAPPINESS IN ALL THAT THERE IS.....

But most especially, AM THANKFUL for whatever time I still get to have with her.... and though am not with her this Thanksgiving - it matters not as I surely will be with her for XMas - as promised....

Juju Days

Seems like these days it is really all about Juju.... every extra moment, when in Taipei is spent with this little one.... yesterday was no different..... though Wu papa is up from Kaohsiung to look after her - we still ended up taking her back to our place to play with... put her to nap... and then later on - a stroll at Sun Yet San Memorial Hall - with Wu Papa along....

It ended up being a fun nite... got to see the Guards do their thing, taking the flag own... watched the Water and Light show which happens nightly..... and of course, got to view Taipei 101 all lit up... always a pleasure to see at night....

And Juju had so much fun - walking.... pushing her wooden toy.... dancing about..... and saying Hello and Bye to all the passers by.... she had such a blast, exerted so much energy that she fell asleep on the bus ride to the restaurant.... we capped off the nite having a little Shabu Shabu for dinner.... a very nice treat.....

Started off the day with my first 7-11 Premium Earphones.... yes, I was FINALLY LUCKY enough to happen upon a 7-11 with a few of them IN STOCK for redemption.... and I got me the OPEN chan one.... Could not wait to get it deboxed and give it a try.... hooked it up on my iPhone and listened to some tunes - in fairness, it sounded pretty good.... nice, very nice, reception indeed!!!

Now I cannot wait to get the LOCK chan one... I do hope that I get LUCKY enough for that one as my second redemption -- two more stickers to go..... :)

Then later on, out of the blue - with the skies still looking gloomy but no rain - we decided to drive up for a DIP at the Hot Spings... less than an hour outside of Taipei.... today was the perfect day... though the sun tried to come out a few times - it never really did.... so it was refreshing to be outdoors, nice cold breezes, and soothing Hot, Natural Spring waters... and all that heat equaled an appetite for some delicacies for lunch....

...and earlier tonite, we got a visit from Jewel - who just came back from Japan... her first trip abroad ever.... only a year old and already Traveling.... what a life!!!

What a GREAT way to spend another rainy day in Taipei.... watching IMMORTALS in the big screen!!! it was worth every penny and every effort from navigating through the rain.... ADD this to my list of FAVE movies for 2011 - and Henry Cavill as a certified HUNK and leading actor... always knew he would fit right in on the big screen.....

Knowing that this is from the same creators of the movie 300 - one is certain to expect Great Visuals and Great Action Sequences.... well, IMMORTALS has all that and so much more.... not as dark as 300, especially the sequences in Mount Olympus, where Zeus and the other Gods (Athena, Poseidon, Ares, etc..) discusses what's going on down below... this world is very Pierre et Giles in looks and feel... colorful, sparkly & sensual... not that the scenes below are not sensual - it was that but Gritty as well.... every frame will hold you captivated.... actions sequences or not....

It helps a lot that the actors fits the movie quite well.... with Mickey Rourke providing real acting chops as the baddie... he did not need to be totally enhanced as was the baddies in 300 - his acting alone was enough to chew up every scene he is in.... the supporting casts of familiar faces (Stephen Dorf, John Hurt, Freida Pinto, Isabel Lucas as Goddes Athena, Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, and most notably, Luke Evans as Zeus...) were all pretty good, as well.... again, they fit right in... one forgets that these are just actors playing parts.... I was totally engrossed in the film...

and Henry Cavill totally delivered on the promised seen in the HBO Series The Tudors.... now am even more soooo looking forward to seeing him fly in the screen as the Man of Steel!!!

Never mind that, most likely the director and producers of the film, butchered up the whole Mythology of Theseus - you just go in for the ride and come out Visually Satisfied!!! Very much recommended - rainy day or not....

Wet Friday Night

Winding down the evening.... Friday, first night of the weekend.... as always, not much to do... decided to brave the rain and just trek over Shilin Night Market - for food & people watching.... and it was a good call as it was, as always crowded... locals & tourists.... young and old alike.... so many people abound....

Needless to say, never ending choices of delicacies to munch on.... plus lots of Night Market goodies to marvel on: Clothes, Bags, Shoes, Accessories and Nick Knacks.... a couple of hours later - we had our FILL - both the Tummy and the Eyes!!!

The place is always a pleasure to visit.... just a total fun night out...

Even got to stop by the Temple to give respects and Thanks to the Gods!!!

was a rainy day the whole day yesterday.... so most of the day was spent indoors.... working... playing with and looking after jewel... never a good thing for me being couped up indoors for looooong periods of time.... as most of you know.... so the minute the rain let up a bit, Jewel in tow, I was out of the house..... hahahahahahahaha...

Sadly it was already around 8PM at this time... with really no place to go - too late to hop on the bus and go to the malls... we walked over to Min Sheng Rd - to check out mags at KINGSTONE BOOKSTORE.... and just hang out.... and Jewel did a lot of her walking exercises for the day on the 3rd floor.... even walked up and down the steps - A LOT!!! ON HER OWN!!! (Not to worry - am ALWAYS close by for support and safety...)

Just so happen that Mister Donut is next door to it... and their XMas poster beckoned us to come in - so a good whole hour was spent eating, drinking, people watching and snapping shots.... we both LOVED sampling the new XMas mini treats - so cute in their XMas packaging - 2 varieties available....

another rainy Sunday here in Taipei..... as with every Sunday, started the day, answering emails, PMs and catching up online.... then Church for this week's Sunday Mass.... enjoyed the music more than anything.... had some Filipino desserts.... called Mom.... and came back home to wait for Jewel, who arrived a little after 1PM... yep, today is babysitting day.....

Jewel has gotten even bigger these few days I was in Manila.... as always, upon arriving - she has the smile and the outstretch arms for me... as if it was only yesterday that i saw her last.... we played for a few hours and now she sleeps.... soundly.... Hopefully, when she awakes the rain would have subsided a bit - so we can take a walk by the river... been a while since I was there last....

I MISS IT....

So, am back answering emails and watching trailers on You Tube... just realized that there will be two Snow White film adaptations.... and both are Big Hollywood undertakings.... and forget who is playing Snow White on both films, the more thrilling news will be the battle of the Evil Queens.... Charlize Theron dons the wickedness in "Snow White and the Huntsman" with Kirsten Stewart as Snow White.... this looks to be a more action packed, darker take on the tale....; while the other adaptation boasts Julia Roberts as the resident Evil Queen to Lilly Collins' Snow White.... I for one, cannot wait for both adaptations.... so forget the Pacquioa/Marquez bout that just concluded - this is the fight am waiting for! Hahahahahahahahaha....

ADDENNDUM: 10PM

Juju just got picked up a little while ago..... we did have a nice nite and got to go for a walk by Dajia River, all the way to the Roahe Night Market for some delicacies, and a visit to the Roahe Temple.... in just under two hours - we went and came back... perfect timing as it started drizzling once more a couple of blocks away from the house.... WHEW!!!

During the last trip to Manila, I got to stop in at the Church in Greenhills Shopping Center once more.... and it was an added BONUS that is was not too crowded.... I got to really look around and get up close to the Madonna and Child sculpture by the altar.... even from afar, it gives such as serene feeling.... soft colors, just the right touch of Golds to make it not GAUDY looking for my taste.... and the Virgin Mary's face is soooo soft and serene... so calming.... I could just stare at it for hours....

By far, IMHO, this is the Prettiest face sculpt of the Virgin Mary I have ever seen in all my travels.... and I have even been to The Vatican.

Heartaches & Lies

God Give Me Strength...

This trip has been too much of a downer for me.... physically, mentally, emotionally.... the weather is not helping.... with all these rain Manila has been having - it seems as if even the skies cries with me....

Am full aware of what condition my Mom is in.... am full aware that the medicine she is taking, mainly AROMASIN, contains STEROIDS that helps her keep her healthy look on the outside.... basically, lies to her and everyone else regarding her condition... and since it was prescribed to her, it has been doing its' job and making my Mom look healthy on the outside.... and made her feel good on the inside.... doing what it mostly is supposed to do, including stop more lumps from appearing, too fast, too soon... Giving her a longer lease on life...

Each month I come, even with all the pain she is experiencing -...from the existing lumps.... all the grief and sadness..... all the emergency trip to the hospital for one reason or another...... and the emotional baggage she carries within her, that she does not talk about much, but is sooooo apparent - she appears in very healthy condition and happy for the most part....

But this visit is a total turnaround.... Mom looked sooooo sad and tired..... lost weight once more.... looked pale and sickly.... and the saddest of all, looks as if she has no ZEST for life left..... her eyes were soooo deep & dark that even laughing I saw no shine in them.... and seeing this kills me the most.... feeling helpless as there is not much I can do..... feeling lost as I do not know what to say to her when asked what else can be done.... knowing full well, deep down she knows what condition she is in.....

Just as the medicine Lies about her Health... I too, have to Lie to her just too keep her spirits up.... and just as the medicine seems to be waning its powers over my Mom's condition - my energy level (EMOTIONALLY, MENTALLY & PHYSICALLY) seems to be waning as well...

WAITING is STILL NOT A VIRTUE of MINE..... and it is about to get looooonger as I take another red eye flight out to Manila tonight..... as you know, this always consists of a bus ride to the Domestic terminal; only to take an hour bus ride to the International terminal..... then a two hour wait for the actual Red Eye flight... so it is another day by the time I arrive.... and yes, it is worse - it's raining!!!

The traveling exhibition: "Inside Peanuts: The Life and Art of Charles M. Schulz" has hit the Taipei shore and will be thrilling youngsters and (a few) young at hearts through the 4th of March.

The exhibition itself, is OK, in my opinion... nothing too great as the venue was quite small.... and the goods displayed were not even that much..... though it was great to see a few pieces from 1958... still after being wowed by the recent ASTROBOY Exhibition, and remembering the SNOOPYLAND in Japan, this one left a lot to be desired for me.... Am sure though that kiddies and Teenage girls will be happy enough with the exhibition... and yes, it was GREAT to see the Peanuts Gang in many different forms... like seeing old friends once again....

COACH Celebrates 70th Anniversay

Last Saturday, Oct 22nd, I had the pleasure of attending the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the COACH brand - Taipei Style!!!

Thanks to my friend Sue (one of COACH Taiwan's VIP customers *WINKS*) and to some sort of circumstances - I lucked out and both Cecilia and Juliana could not attend the event with her... so it was my turn!!!!

I expected a fashion show, as seen from Previous years' coverage of the Annual Event - but since this was the brand's 70th BDay - they decided to treat their VIPs to, not just a fashion show, but to a mini - concert... 3 mini concerts really as three different acts did their thing: Black Pearl & White Diamonds, A JAZZ BAND ACT that wowed the crowds with their songs Jazzy Grooves... *****, whose name escapes me now as she has not been seen for quite some time but has a very nice voice that I like - even bought her DEBUT CD when it came out years ago.... and the STAR ATTRACTION for the nite, Vanness Wu - from F4 and Meteor Garden fame.... not really a Great singer but dances really well, and an excellent muscle flexer.... of late he is known for his Sexy MVs and Earl Jean Sexy Ad campaign..... and yes, there were still a couple of segments - in between acts - of Fashion Show.... pretty models strutting in their COACH clothing, promoting the new line of Men's & Women's Bags - what the Brand is more known for....

After it all... on our way out... we happen upon Vanness Wu taking a few PRESS SHOT with COACH Taiwan's Higher Ups.... they were also joined by "Da Swei Ba" (Big Mouth) - another popular band - who was also in attendance but did not perform.... Star gazing was in full force for me that nite as saw a host of other familiar Fashion Models, TV and Music personalities.... Over all it was a Great Nite for people and Star Gazing!!!

The event was held in one of Taiwan's newest mall, ATT 4 Fun.... right on the top floor where the events room is used mainly for mini concerts of Taiwan's more popular acts...

Always a front runner in cladding, or disrobing I should say, famous hot bodies - Bench Body did it again!!! This time in the form of The Vampire Diaries' resident wolfman: Michael Trevino aka Tyler Lockwood.... and these shots will surely give everyone something to HOWL about - even before HALLOWEEN!!!

Sad to report, yesterday, I posted my last photo for 365 project... not because I am tired of the project - I LOVE 365! the year and some days I spent were, for the most part: fun, challenging, and enjoyable. As I always enjoy toting the camera around, it was a great release, great place, to POST and SHARE some of my shots.... what I find interesting, different, beautiful - and in my very own perspective.... it has been great getting feedback from other snappers around the world - both professionals and amateurs, like me.... Over the period, I have met quite a few WONDERFUL PEOPLE - whose TALENTS and PHOTOS INSPIRED ME and put me in AWE.... made me do more, experiment more, and see more things differently..... These people will be SURELY MISSED!

But true to the saying, all good things must come to an end.... permanently or temporarily, the end for 365 project and I have come.... with all that has been going on with my life, it has become too much to keep up with the project.... I always find myself lagging, frustrated and trying to catch up... not just with my own photo entries each and every day - but with catching up on other people's work... I have less and less time looking and admiring their work - much more commenting on most.... and this makes me SAD... and yes, the person that I am, GUILTY.... Guilty of not doing my share, my part.... so for this, I must make the hard choice of leaving the community - till I find my time permits me to do so once more.... more freely and can stay current with all.... with less pressures and less frustrations - as I must TRULY SAVE MY ENERGY.... and STOP FEELING LIKE AM RUNNING ON EMPTY - which I have been the last few months....

I am NO SUPERMAN, or SUPER RUDI, AFTER ALL.... :(

and NEEDLESS to say, I would have HATED ENDING UP FEELING SOUR with the whole project.... it is BEST to leave when am HAPPY and with HAPPY THOUGHTS for the community....

So with 365 Project, I start my journey into streamlining my life... lightening up my load... and hopefully, finding my way back to a more relaxed... less stressful daily life....

PENSHOPPE Goes Inter, Again!!!

Earlier this year, Penshoppe - one of the Philippines leading clothing brand - completely stunned me when they unveiled their latest ad campaign.... though am not much a FAN of their clothing (too young, too trendy, not too hip), I have always admired their advertising... and their choice of endorsers.... from Jericho Rosales.. to Victor Basa... to Matteo Gudecelli... local actor/ models and certified hunks... but this Springtime, out went the local hotties - and instead, they unveiled a slew of print ads and billboards with Hollywood Star, Ed Westwick... Chuck Bass of the popular Gossip Girl.... I suppose this is a BIIG COUP for the local brand... delighted the masses who frequents their shops.... but alienated me a bit more.... Have nothing against Mr. Westwick - I can even say that some of the ads I have seen with him in, I actually like.... he looked better that I remember him in the show.... though I have only caught the first season... hahahahahaha...

Now, word is that a slew of new Ad Campaigns will be hitting the market for Penshoppe before the Holidays... this time around using Thai Actor/Model/Superstar Mario Mauer... once again... not a local hottie but at least, coming from the same continent.... and with half an Asian blood infuse in him.... I believe he has a Thai mother and a European father... and though I have never seen him in anything he has acted in (Love of Siam being his biggest HIT!) - I have seen him magazines and local entertainment news... and he is a certified hottie... so am looking forward to his shots up in biiig billboards, as well as, print ads in local Philippine Fashion Mags.... BTW, Mario will make a Personal Appearance in Manila on Oct 29th - he will be one of the main attraction for Penshoppe's Fashion Show for Philippine Fashion Week.

So this is a TREND the Philippine fashion houses are going for it seems.... Bench's underwear ads with the Philippine Ruby Team (though playing for the Philippines - each but one of them look Filipino!); OXYGEN using none but Caucasian Models... and now, Penshoppe with their "one-two" use of foreign talents...

So what's the deal??? Why replace the locals with International stars, athletes and/or models? In fairness, Philippine Houses uses foreign talents both in print and media ads... and Philippine runways also boasts foreign talents... still, the locals always gets top billing and are the main focus.... until now.... as EXCITING as it is that the Philippine brands seemed geared to go Global - it is saddening to think that they will NOT BE REPRESENTED by Local Bloods.... seems a bit of a shame... especially now that the Filipino Pride and Community seems to be everywhere - in sports, in Music, on TV, etc....

Mom was rushed to the hospital early Wed morning.... found out about it a little after 12PM via PM form my niece, Nicole, on Facebook: "Your Mom was rushed to the hospital this morning. She could not breathe..." That was it... nothing more........

Needless to say I tried to call right away but to no avail... was at a lost all afternoon - going crazy with worries.... I even contemplated on getting an airline TIX and flying out to see her at once.... Good thing I was finally able to get a hold of my half brother (in Manila at the moment... on leave from his work in the Middle East) and found out how Mom is...

Indeed, she was rushed early morning Wednesday, as she was having a hard time breathing since Tues nite.... somehow her lungs got clogged up from the cold she is having. which the doctors drained out of her... and was prescribed antibiotics.... the sad thing is that, though she was already feeling this - she did not say a thing as she didn't want to trouble anyone... :( (Oh Mom!)

Thank God, she is now back at home, and her breathing is getting better and better....

Real Steel. Real Tears

Boy, am really not one for BOXING but am such a HUGE Hugh Jackman fan, I had to go see Real Steel... I mean when I first saw the Previews for it - I was not really impressed... was actually saying why is Hugh doing this movie? The just seeing his smile, and throw in Evangeline Lilly as the love interest - I WAS SOLD!

Now, am glad I did go see it.... and can even TRULY HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! It was great that the characters did not take a back seat from Special Effects or the Transformer Type Robot Fighters, though Adam (Hugh's son's robot) will surely make you smile and move you, too... Story was well rounded enough, even with the predictability and the actors are all WINSOME.... they will tug at your heart and really rally to root for them all the way.... I mean I almost got up my seat and started shouting at the last fight, too....

Hugh Jackman is still as charming as ever... and all he does in a very manly way... He is a Man's man... and the fact that this actor can sing (can't wait to see him in the film version of Les Miserables) and dance makes me appreciate him more in these type of movies.... The young boy who plays his son, Dakota Goyo, is a cutie but not in a kiddie way... he still showed depth and maturity for his age... wise beyond his years..... and Evangeline Lilly.... wow, so happy to see her... and her teary eyed scene at the end - without having to say anything - makes me miss her more now that LOST is off the air.... I do hope she gets her chance in Hollywood and go on to make even bigger movies that showcases her dramatic flair... They were such screen presence I even forgot that i do not like movies with BOXING subtext (men or steel alike).... :)

Lunch with DR Q!!!

well.... let me set things straight right off the bat - we did not actually have lunch together.... we were in the same restaurant, Wood Stone, @ 98 Bistro Building.... separate tables and different companions.... I was with Juliana having our regular get-together.... so Close Enough to having lunch with him, right? hahahahahahahahaha

DR Q, for those of you not familiar with him, burst into the scene via One Million Star - Taiwan;'s Premiere Singing Contest... his Season was a few years back... as far back as 2007 (am not too sure on this...).... anyway, I have liked him ever since.... he sings pretty well, dances well, and has such a lively personality.... sometimes, you forget the talent as you are just amused by the personality....

Since then, he has been a permanent fixture on Taiwan Television... variety shows, Idol Soap Operas and of course, he returns to One Million Star frequently.... I know that he has been making the rounds at local Pubs Island-wide.... sadly, I have not been able to catch him in person yet... due to Timing mostly.... for the most part, I learn about the gig too late, or am out of the country - which you know is once a month.... Now he is making the rounds even more, as his CD will be coming out this month.... and the lead song is already making regular rotations on both MTV and VH1... Catchy song... and FUN video - just right up his personality...

So needless to say, I did not miss the chance when I saw him walk past us a couple of times.... the third time - he was actually leaving already - just had to get up, walk over and talk to him... and of course, snap a shot.... to all these, he graciously accommodated me.... and I must say, I was not disappointed.... he was as charming, lively, outgoing, and friendly as he seems to be on TV.... now am even more of a FAN!!!!

Okay, so I pretty much expected this weather as I saw it in the news yesterday.... albeit, the Heavy Rain and Thunder came a bit earlier than predicted, it was still expected....

Along with the Typhoon weather came so much more unpleasantness in the form of other things, other people.... Frustrations from not being able to do enough.... feeling helpless for the ones I cannot help.... and hurt from bitter words thrown my way, when all I was doing was caring...

I have always been told that my CURSE is that I am TOO SENSITIVE and that I CARE TOO MUCH.... MORE THAN I SHOULD.... and today, SADLY, I realise it more than ever... Twice, with Great Intentions of reaching out and making family know that I CARE and MISS THEM resulted in getting my feelings hurt.... First, with every Great Intention and Genuine Feelings of Caring and Missing a family member, I reached out when I saw her on YM.... all was going GREAT till I offered a single advice regarding her future - a productive one And I thought I was giving it not in a nagging way, but out of a real genuine concern.... She has so MUCH HATRED in her life - that this one thing led her to BLOW OFF STEAM at me.... made me remember, all the other times I have been hurt by her careless words... And, even sadder, I ended up yelling at my Mom... well, not directly at her - but to her over someone else..... of course, I HATED myself in the process...

Aaaaaah, I should know better.... I know my family for the most part... I know how they are... their good points and bad points..... but why is it that I still let them get to me after all these years and everything else that has gone on in the family..... after all these, I just had to drop everything and go out for a bit.... rain and all.... wanted to get some fresh air.... see something pretty - which is these blooms found by a school near the house.... then I felt better... and just had to remind myself that....

I REALLY MUST LEARN TO CARE LESS....

FALL comes to SOGO...

Had to make a delivery on Chung Hsiao East Road.... since it is close by to SOGO Department Store, I decided to walk over there and had a quick lung in the food court.... glad I did as I was treated to a couple of things:

Firstly, I happen upon a Press Conference happening in front of ROSE RECORDS.... fans and press alike surrounded this band members - with tons of microphones shoved in front of their faces.... guess lots of media were covering the event.... the funny thing is that I am not familiar with them.... actually had to ask one of the spectator who they were... LOL.... They are called D.C.W., a quasi- popular Taiwan Rock Band..

Then as my stomach was already growling from hunger, I headed on to SOGO.... Hunger was completely forgotten as I admired the front of the Department Store - red and orange cherry blossoms on display... very Fall, very Japan.... totally made me forget about food and miss Japan so very much....

Yep, that's right.... one of the Philippine's leading clothing retailer, Folded N Hung, has jumped on the SUPERHERO bandwagons and collaborated with MARVEL for their newest T-SHIRT Offerings.... and from what am seeing so far on the net, their designs are FUNKY, COOL, and SUPERHERO WORTHY!!!

So far the TEEs highlights MARVEL's finest and more popular Superheroes: Thor, Captain America, IRONMAN, The Hulk, Spiderman, Storm, Silver Surfer, and WOLVERINE.... the designs/graphics seems to me, nice and not too kiddie - so even Adult fans will surely not shy away from wearing these Tees.... Now I can only hope, some will still be around (my size!) the next time am in Manila.....

Sweet Saturday

Unplanned, Unexpected Outings are ALWAYS BEST!! Such was how Saturday was spent.... with such a gloomy day and nothing really much to do, as work was all done, went along with Jewel and family to Yilan for an afternoon/evening outing....

First stop was Mr Brown's Castle.... yes, Mr Brown Coffee - is BIIIIG in Yilan... this is actually the 2nd BIIIIIIG Coffee shop they have in this town.... you already saw the other one which I blogged about previously..... This one, though not as biiiiig - is actually even cooler as the building facade is that of a castle..... and the view - oh what a view..... as it is located way up in the mountains - one gets a great view of the city and ocean..... almost like being in one of the Castle's in Northern Europe....

In the evening, we went to the actual Tourist town of Yilan.... closed to the Train Station.... always bustling with tourists... parades of Tour buses are parked, neon signs for various Hot Springs. Spas, Hotels blinds.... and rows and rows of restaurants lines the streets.... Here, we had dinner and took a bit of a Hot Springs dip in one of the public ones.... well, just the feet but still soothingly pleasing....

Someone's had a looooong nite.... hahahahahaha.....

THE SORCERER AND THE WHITE SNAKE

The Sorcerer and the White Snake is another retelling of an old popular Chinese film - updated, infused with so much CGI that thrills and sadly, overwhelms the poignant love stories.... just as it did the retelling of A Chinese Ghost Story - shown a few months earlier....

This visual delight of a movie is a Chinese tale about the romance between a human, herbalist XuXian (Raymond Lam), and a demon in the form of a white snake which can take human form (Eva Huang). Between them comes a crusading monk and sorcerer Fa Hai (Jet Li) whose mission it is to fight demons, and of course, to his sensibilities, this liaison is not acceptable.

Overwhelming the love story are the elaborate fight sequences, amazing to watch but it did get tiring after a while as one would like to see more of the main characters' emotional story. And as an added bonus, familiar faces decorates the film throughout: Miriam Yeoung, Vivian Hsu & Charlene Tsoi as the Green Snake. Nonetheless, it is an entertaining film under the direction of famous action choreographer turned director, Tony Ching.

I totally recommend this film - the younger generations would not be disappointed by the colorful & amazing graphics and the older ones will be touched, even just a bit, by this modern take...

but of course, for me, the one I saw many years back, White Snake/Green Snake, is still a better film - after all, who can forget and resists the charms of both Maggie Cheung & Joey Wong as the snake sisters..... and the super Hottie Hunk, Wu Shing Kuo as the Sorcerer Monk... and as a TREAT for you all - here's the trailer for the Original with Maggie Cheung and Joey Wong...

Yesterday, we celebrated Jewel's first birthday.... we were out for most of the day.... from 12Noon till 7PM really..... went to SOGO for a BDAY Lunch... then walked around the mall and checked out the newest UNIQLO inside this SOGO.....

Right after we stopped by the Martyr's Shrine to watch the 5PM changing of the guards - a popular attraction for both locals and tourists alike....

Then we went on to the Temple so Jewel, as well as, all of us can pay respects and give Thanks to the Gods....

Ended the nite back at Juju's home - for dinner and top of the nite with a BDAY cake.... overall, I think Jewel had a Great Day - as she loves being out.... people watching.... and crawling in wide open spaces - which she sure did a lot of at SOGO....

Happy BDay, Jewel... here's to many more to come!!!!

ISSUES

I suppose Life is not Life unless there is ISSUES between colleagues, friends, partners, and the worst kind, families.... the thing to do is to listen, fix what needs to be or can be fixed, and then move on... need not hang on to most of it as it can truly weigh one down....

Such is what I just went through with a sibling of mine, just last week... nope, the the elder ones but a half sibling of mine... we did not grow up together, only spent a few childhood years together - so basically, we have lost touched and do not know each other... Needless to say, I have never asked her for anything in my life... and now, I wished I did not....

Last week, while in Manila, I had asked her for a favor for our Mom... see her son is a Nurse Graduate and all we needed was for him to look at one of Mom's sores, as it was taking a long time to heal... Mom really did not want to have to go to the hospital again and take more tests.. so we are trying to see if we can get by with just the grandkid's advice.... I even offered to pay for their travel time and such.... so, all was understood... simple, not much to it.... she was to text me as soon as she talks with her son, and they figured out a time when to see Mom...

I did not get a text that nite... nor the following morning... instead I got a text well into the afternoon - and it was a loooong two parter text that lists all the troubles she has been going through... with her own life... her family... with our Mom... and basically with us - her half siblings as well... some of her words even HURT a lot... to this I only replied: "I really do not understand all that you are saying.... I was merely asking your son for a favour for our Mother... the whole reason for the contact is just that - not about me, not about you... just our Mom..."

Don't really think that was her focus at all... she wanted nothing of it... she went on to complain in a few more texts.... WHOAH! I chose to keep silent... i did not want to make things worse... nor did I want to hear anything else... I did not text back.... nor do I intend to ever again... am only saddened and frustrated for my Mom... really do not understand why, even at the state she is in, it still has to be this way with some of her children... aaaaah, such is life.... we move on... we deal... and we try to do what we can... the best we can... that is all...

Such an emotional, heartwarming thing to see the joy, not just on my Mom's face, but her siblings as well as we had a mini fily gathering at my Mom's home..

Papa Mike, her older brother - who lives in Manila but due to a stroke many years ago, does not get around much.... & Tita Yvonne (her younger sister) who came to visit all the way from their family province of Bicol - about 7 hour bus ride to Manila.. Also along for the visits are my cousins, Rounette and May plus their children.... Quite a lot of family in my Mom's tiny home...

But that was part of the joy, I suppose... The tight setting made it much more cozier.... Hearing the three siblings reminisce about their lives, their friends, the family... Laughter, sighs of sadness and so much love all around made my heart smile with joy - joy for being able to witness and listen in to their conversations ( such sharp minds, i can only hope, I would be as sharp when i am in their ages)... And mostly joy knowing and sensing my Mom's happiness having her siblings over for a visit....

Before I flew back to Taiwan, I called up my Mom to say goodbye and asks her if she had a wonderful time during the visit - to which she replied: "of course, there is nothing like getting together with one's siblings - no matter what has gone on between them over the years.. Over the course of their lives...." hmmmmmm, I wonder if she is hinting at something here?

Flight Fright

A bit of a scare... Got to NAIA 3 in plebty of time before my flight back to Taipei earlier tonight... All's well, though crowded, check in still went smoothly.... And even with the kind of weather we have been having, the plane took of at exactly the rime it was supposed to....

25 mins into our flight, thr plane made a sharp all aroind left turn... Then the Capt came on the speakers informing us that we have just made a turn back ino Manila , and for the cabin crew to prepare the cabin for landing as we will be landing shortly... No other reason given....

After we have landed... We taxied and got to a gate - nothing was still said... No additional info... Then, they opened up the door and finally the stewardess got on the intetcom to inform us we will be switching gates... Gates? I think she meant plane.... I hoped she meant plane....

It was plane alright.... A little pass midnite, we are boarding once more... once seated, they Captain just got on the intercom once more and apologized again for the inconvenience - without much more said about what just happened.... Oh well, what do you expect: "Budget Airline, Budgeted Info" - hahahahahahahaha........

At about 12:30AM, the time we ahould have arrived in Taipei, we took off for the 2nd time... They did say the 2nd time is a charm, right?

2011 Taiwan Designers Week Expo

Went to another Exhibition on the 23rd @ the 1914 Huanshan District of Taipei.... it was the 2011 Taiwan Designers Week - promoting and highlighting mostly local artists - both famous and soon to be famous ones....

Some really great and innovative designs... ranging from tech items for one's computer, household goods, fashion accessories, design accessories, furniture and lighting - both for the home and the office, gift items, even packaging, and sooooo much more...

So glad to have been able to catch this one as it only runs till this Sunday, the 25th... and am already flying out tonite for Manila for a week....

MOCA Goes FASHIONISTA!

Yesterday, I took in the "Fashionista" Exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art - Taipei, Taiwan. As you already know, this museum has got to be my most FAVE one in all of Taiwan - as it showcases a lot more contemporary, current, & fun exhibitions.... with this one not any different.

Fashionista showcases local top (familiar names such as Isabelle Wen, Jasper Huang & ) and some up and coming designers - all oozing with so much talents and visions. The exhibition focuses on the designers current/contemporary thinking and views, interpreted in all aspects of fashion: clothing, shoes, accessories, and even a bit of interior designs...

Great pieces are on display... intricately and exquisitely designed clothing... Bustiers made of solid wood... gorgeous gowns made of mesh materials.... some of them are TRULY worthy of being worn down the fashion runways of Paris, London, Tokyo and/or New York.

The way the collections are presented leaves a lot to be desired as well.... very contemporary setting.... and one that is very outstanding is the area where a bunch of white tops lined the ceiling, like clouds lining up the skies.... it was just heavenly looking.... in the same room, creations by different designers are showcased in their individual spotlight, a blurb on the design, and even a wide screen TV with designers taking about their designs...FASHIONISTA runs thru the 13th of November, 2011

Lost in Translation II

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of seeing a screening of "Seediq Bale" - a two parter Taiwanese film documenting the historical Japanese occupation of Taiwan waaaaaay back before WWII... it is the Mountain Aboriginals plight - in preserving their ancestry, regaining their territory and PRIDE back from the Japanese.

Part one covers the origins of Mona Rudao, the taiwanese Hero and the main character of the film. We see him grow up, become a man... fight for his tribes rights and freedom, only to be captured and succumbed to the Japanese... and fast forward to the 1930's - he is now an older man co-existing with the Japanese but deep down brooding(and brewing) for their freedom. The two hour movie culminated in the "oh-so-very-bloody" revolt against the Japanese.... I had to turn away or close my eyes in certain parts but it is not, I assure you, bloodshed just for the heck of getting reactions from the audience... all was done true to the tribesmen's historical ways of dealing with their enemies...

Been looking forward to this movie for quite some time.... the PREVIEWS looked AMAZING and EMOTIONAL - and BEST OF ALL, they had ENGLISH Subtitles... Alas, there was none when we went to see the film.... even at the Warner Viewshow, which is frequented by foreigners so one would think they would show the ones with English Subtitles... The movie was in both Japanese and the Aboriginal Dialect... and the subtitles were in Chinese... I was OUT OF LUCK!!!

But not all was lost... the story was very UNIVERSAL... the EMOTIONS quite apparant, thanks to the wonderful actors... and I did get a little bit of Translation help in the most PIVOTAL parts.... so i still got the JIST of the whole thing - was caught in the beautiful cinematography, great landscapes used for settings, and the emotion of the whole thing... Now I cannot wait for

PART 2 of the film...

Rainy Monday Morning.... it will be a WET week if all weather predictions are correct... still, it is not too bad as it could be raining harder - since we are supposed to be in for another TYPHOON island wide.... CROSSING FINGERS that it will not be too bad.... :)

The past week, as with other past weeks of late, went by quite fast.... sometimes I really do not know where my week goes.... that is until I look back at my photos and see where I have been and what I have been doing.... LOL..... always good to take photos each and everyday - it helps me in remembering my days...

PORTER INTERNATIONAL celebrating it's 10th year has 4 PREMIUM OFFERINGS for it's (getting even larger) fans.... and crossing into the TOY COLLECTOR fans, too! Am doubly in trouble as I am both a fan of the BRAND and of course, VINYL TOYS!!!

Came across the first figure a couple of months back in MEN's UNO magazine.... now I cannot read Chinese so I did not know that the HELL it said.... only the month (I presumed!) that it would be released... SADLY, I missed out on that released - it came and went so fast I was told by employees from a few different PORTER INTERNATIONAL shops I visited all over Taipei.... armed with the photo of it in my iPhone...LOL... Am sure a biiiiig part of it was it's cuteness.... whether you like the brand or not - this is on UBER CUTE offering: it is of the PORTER BELLHOP LOGO in a very cute 3D form... and 6 inches in height!!! And as if rubbing SALT to the WOUND, at one of the shop, there was one displayed - see photo on the left - needless to say it was just that, for display only.... and no amount of begging was good enough to be able to buy it... Alas, the BOSS is also a collector of VINYL TOYS and this one is for his own collection already! Boo Hoo...

So I was giving up on this, but in passing I mentioned it to Juliana and she reminded me to try Sue - always GREAT at finding stuff on Yahoo Auctions, Taiwan... so I dropped her a call and Lo and Behold, the same day she found me one.... at a price pretty much what they sold for when first released - SCORE!!! She even did better than me... she researched it right away and found a PRESS EVENT LAUNCH ARTICLE about the figures - with photos of the collection.... THANKS SUE!!!

The first of 4 Limited Edition, released back in JULY/AUGUST, sold in the shops for NT$980 (US$30) - or for $480 (a little less than US$15) with a Purchase.... the 2nd one will be released in October, I was told.... got myself on the wait list already and am really HOPING not to miss out on this one.... his is one collection really worth keeping....

I had forgotten that today is a Holiday... no work, no post office, no banks... and even the Gym and the Library is closed... I should be HAPPY for the extra day off but the rain just started falling... so it will be a WET MONDAY as predicted... boo hoo....

OH WELL... will still make the most of the extra day off.... Happy Moon Festival All!

On a side note: I really cannot believe how the months have been going by soooooo fast.... we are now in the last 4 months of the year... the "BER" months... in just a little bit, it will be DECEMBER... XMas one again.... too fast, too soon.... AM NOT READY..... and as if adding SALT to the WOUND - just a couple of days ago the Taiwan Times ran this photo - XMas Retail has already commenced in Manila... YOWZA!!!

Pinoy Sunday Treat

I look forward to most of my Sundays in Taipei as it is the time when I can satisfy the Pinoy in me... First by attending the Filipino Service at St. Christopher's Church - though I did not understand part of the Homily, as the Tagalog sometimes is just way too deep for me, I always enjoy the music... so lovely and soothing to the ears... truly uplifting...

Then, on some Sundays, like today for instance, I get to have some Pinoy Food... mostly the desserts but today I actually got to have a couple of my Fave dishes for lunch: Pinakbet and Menudo... then of course the Ginatan dessert.... all YUMMY and makes me feel like am back in Manila once more...Now and then, when I have more time - I check out the Pinoy magazines and DVDs for sale... am not much for the movies as mostly, I do not know the actors and I have seen a few that really left a bad taste in my mouth... so if not recommended, I do not tend to buy.... mostly I look for concert videos, as I prefer to listen to the music more... I can play them without actually having to watch... just to hear some good old OPM, while I work or clean the house...

Today I was in luck, a new GARY VALENCIANO Music Special DVD just came out - and i snapped a copy right away... I was, I still am, elated over it... and now I have seen it a couple of times already... His music, his songs, though some are 20 plus years old - he manages to always bring on a fresh take in each and every concert of his... not that they need it, his music are timeless : both message and melody... I highly recommend you to get a copy... Sir Gary V. - Mr Pure Energy, as he is called in the local BIZ - and his music will forever be a Favorite of mine...

Friday afternoon,Sept. 9th, just as soon as I got done with all my work for the day, packing shipping, emails - I got ready and armed with Juliana's direction on how to get to the National Palace Museum, boldly I went.... now, I have been in the Museum many times before but always by car or scooter... this time I was on my own and taking Public Transportation...

It was a BREEZE!!! Thank God for the fine directions, the Great Public Transit System in Taiwan, and the kind people I asked a long the way - I made it with no trouble at all - the Heat of the Sun does not count... that cannot be helped... :)

It was a GREAT Exhibition overall... lots of early works, original illustrations, and commissioned works on display.... sadly we were not allowed to photograph inside (though I did manage to sneak a few shots! you can check them out by clicking here: MUCHA EXHIBITION)... the exhibition ends tomorrow, September 12th... it has been running since June 11th, but with the schedule I keep - I was not able to go (had to force myself or miss out)till the 9th of this month... LOL!

Wishing I was the EVERREADY BUNNY right about now - just keep on Going, and Going, and Going.... the last few weeks has been soooo HECTIC.... definitely one for the books.... there were mornings when I would wake up in the middle of the nite and forget where I was....First a week in Manila (Aug 17th thru the wee hours of the morning on the 25th)... the it was half a day of work (SHIPPING THINGS!) - then off to the SPEED TRAIN to go down Kaohsiung for three days....Got back about 2AM on the 28th, slept for a couple of hours, got up, pack and get ready to head on to the Airport once more to fly out to LAOS, Via Bangkok.... a 6 day Surprise Trip!!!Came home on the 3rd, late afternoon... followed up on work - missing so many days.... and it was Baby Sitting duties for the next 3 days - and trying to work in the morning and in between playing with Juju.... she is 11 months old this month, btw......lots of shipments came in... kept me doubly busy the next few days.... with the only break coming from a 3 HR Special SRI SRI YOGA session that Juliana took me to.... could not have come at a better time, I was in badly need of stretching and (Peace of) mind tuning... LOL!Last two days spent mostly indoors packing stuff to get ready for today's shipping pick up... so pretty much done with this batch... can actually breate a bit better again... even got to stroll over to Roahe for an evening food run, temple visit and a breezy walk by Dajia Riverside Park...The next few days should be a bit better.... am almost done with shipping all that is in... billing for what is coming in next and following up on other orders... and I only have MUCHA and PICASSO exhibitions on my MUST DO plate as exhibition runs will be ending soon...

The other nite, I was watching the DVD of "ANGELS & DEMONS" for the 2nd time.... it has been over a year since I saw it last - so it was all somewhat new to me again... of course, since the film was mostly set in Rome, Italy - I could not help but be enthralled by the beauty of Italy once more.... brough back so many Great Memories from last year's trip... this month marks exactly one year since the trip... already a year had passed but everything still seems so fresh to me.... all the beautiful historical sights, the language, the food (Gelato Ice Cream each day and Pizza Margarita in Napoli especially), the people... just about everything...

So am reminiscing... looking back at all the photos taken... makes me wish to be back once more.... but for now, I will just be content with looking back and sharing some of my photos starting with this collage of photos from The Vatican visit... so happens it was on the 8th that we were there.... a SUnday so we lucked into attanding a mass service... and with today being Mama Mary's Birthday - everything seems to be just fitting....

HUGO BOSS's been running their adverts both on TV and Magazines lately... and in ASIA a whole lot more - especially on CNN Asia and Travel & Living Stations... this must be on the heel of his band's (30 Seconds to Mars) latest Asian Concert Tour.Jared Leto, of course, first burst into the acting scene as the Boyfriend of Claire Danes on MTV's My So Called Life... and he went on to play second leads in such big movies as FIGHT CLUB with Brad Pitt & Edward Norton; Lord of War with Nicholas Cage; and Alexander with Colin Farrell, Angelina Jolie and former HUGO BOSS man, John Rhys Myers ... Had a nice time of it yesterday watching kids slip and slide away at the DAHU PAR Pool.... a FAVE POOL of mine with an OLYMPIC sized pool to do laps in, an indoors pool for those who do not want to tan, Sauna, Steam and Water Massage areas for relaxation, and of course, a KIDDIE THEME water park....

Yesterday was a gloomy day... even rained alot - as it has been the last few days... with nothing else better to do, and NO SUN to burn the skin - decided to go for a dip at DAHU park... just over the bridge from where we live... it was just what I needed... refreshing waters, with hardly anyone at the pool - almost like having the Olympic sized pool to ourselves.... and quite enjoyed the Water Massage - been soooo long since I was here last....

The added bonus was watching the kiddies get sooooooo excited taking turns sliding down the water slide... and over and over they went doing so.... "Small simple pleasures, giant smiles sheer joy!"

Chinese Ghost Month or Chinese Ghost Festival, which started on the 31st of July is particularly heightened today, the 15th day of the 7th month in the Lunar Calendar... today is called Ghost Day... and for extra scare, tonite promises to be a full moon....

In Taiwan, it is believed that ghosts haunt the entire island of Taiwan during the seventh lunar month. The first day of the celebration is inaugurated by the opening of the gate of a temple which symbolizes the gates of hell. All the lamps on the main altar are lit during the twelfth day of the festival. On the thirteenth day, a procession of lanterns is held. A parade is held for releasing water lanterns is done during the fourteenth day of the festival. During the duration, incense and various foods are being offered and spirit paper money is burnt in order to please the wandering spirits. It is also believed that the addresses of houses being visited by the spirits should not be named.

So, today, I best be extra careful... no running by Dajia River... and will pretty much stay indoors... can never be too careful.... :)

Rainy Days & Mondays

Ok... am a day late with this post... but still counts as it is still a very rainy Tuesday...

Well, I got totally soaked Monday afternoon.... was out doing errands when it rain started raining Cats & Dogs.... Thunder and Lightning to boot.... so I decided to wait it out as I did not carry an umbrella when I left.... why would I, it was a beautiful nice morning with totally blue skies.... so the rain was truly unexpected.... But it was a delivery call... a shipment from CHINA I have been waiting on for a looooong time... so I had no choice... I did not want to miss this deliver and wait another day - so I said YES and ran home in the rain.... all 10 blocks!!! Made it home but wouldn't you know it, it took them another 2 hours to get to my home and deliver.... by that time the rain had already stopped... and of course, they decided to wait out the rain before making the delivery... nice of them to let me know... LOL...Now it is Tuesday.... and the rain has been off and on since morning.... Hard Rain, Light Rain, Blue Skies, Dark Clouds, & Rain Again! But that is fine as I have tons of packing to do - for the next couple of days' shipping.... I did manage to take a bit of a break - met up with Sue for a quickie lunch - and I Finally got to give her her BDay presents... a few days late... and to my Surprise, I got one, too... another BDay gift... :)) Aaaaaah, such is life... full of surprises & frustrations & happiness.... ironies, too.... and everything else...

She had visitors and my cousin even surprised her by bringing over my UNCLE (Mom's Older Brother) for a visit.... they had cake, food and family love.... so I felt less SAD knowing she had a WONDERFUL DAY...

MUSEUM DAY

Another rainy wet day yesterday - so what could be BEST than taking a break from WORK and going to the MUSEUM... at least you get to go out, but still not out in the rain.... and you get to enjoy, be awed, and be inspired by so many FAB ART on exhibit....

Always a pleasure going to the Museum of Contemporary Art of Taipei.... I mean, even before you get into the actually museum - you get to enjoy all the wonderful, fun things surrounding the Museum.... sculptures that actually leads you the the MUSEUM.... and then right at the very front of the MUSEUM - always something happening... another exhibit unto itself.... and you do not even have to pay to see it all... so you get to enjoy some art already - FREE!!

Not that it is expensive to go in...actually one of the CHEAPEST MUSEUM ENTRANCE FEE I have ever known.... only NT$50 (less than US$2.00) to get in and enjoy the exciting & fun installations - usually, at least two or three exhibitions going at a time... this time I enjoyed the two main exhibitions:

Today was all about working... packing things for tomorrow's Post Office pick up.... and dealing with other stuff - personal & work related.... so, i decided, as a little break treat - pick up Jewel and go for a nice leisurely walk by Dajia River, alays a FAVE past time of mine.... Besides, the weather, though a bit more windier, is still pretty enough, not at all like what they are predicting it to be... another typhoon is coming you see.... So might as well take advantage of the weather before am stuck indoors once more....

The walk was just what I needed.... people all around.... walking, running, biking, hanging about and enjoying the weather, as well... Jewel being in a good mood - even let me put her in the stroller for the whole time - when usually she cries as she just wants to be carried.... and of course, watching the beautiful sunset.... and seeing the skies beautifully change from light to dark..... almost a good 2 Hours was spent enjoying it all...

it's a Stormin' Inside & Out!

Yep, that pretty much sums up my trip this last week in Manila.... it was hella raining, storming most of the time outside... and storming emotionally on the inside....

Aug 7th will be Mom's 74th BDay... will not be there so we made the most of things and had a mini celebration... mini Chocolate cake to boot... it made my Mom Happy.... and made me even Happier.... and it also helped that my cousin (Mom's Niece) with family in tow, came to spend an afternoon with her, too.... but I know deep down she is emotionally sad...

Actually, this is the first thing I noticed when I arrived this time around... though she looked healthy, her movements tells me that she was in pain once more... and her eyes, like mine, do not lie.... sadness is sooo apparent... the first few days i was shaking it all off to the fact that her prescribed meds already run out and had expired... not wanting to go back for further prodding and tests, she had to make do with pain killers the last few days... and the appearance of more growing LUMPS on the side of her right breasts...Went back to Medical City... consulted with the Doctor... as she had stated before, even if my MOM agreed on an operation, it is already not advisable... we spoke at length and she prescribed some meds once more.... hoping that the meds will keep my Mom healthy and stopped more lumps from appearing... at least, suppress them from appearing too fast, too soon.... I can tell that the Meds I once again gave my Mom to take, gave her much hopes once more to be healthy and be able to still move around on her own... and this was enough for me....But one thing that took it's toll on me this time around, was when my Mom, while we were just hanging out, gabbing, laughing as we reminisce - pretty much all we do when we hang out - she stopped for a minute, got a serious look on her face and said: "Better talk about this now so we all know... when my time comes, I do not want anyone taking my body anywhere... I do not want to be buried where am not supposed to be.... I would rather be cremated and have my ashes spread in the ocean..." I think we all stopped from chatting and was just a bit shocked at first, then reality sat in.... and I was almost bursting in tears but kept it inside... You see, I know that this is something I should be prepared for... even the last doctor visit, I was reminded to be sure I know what to expect and what my Mom's wishes are when the time comes... just to be prepared... and though this definitely gives me an idea as to what to do - I could not help but feel LOST....

Lost... Lost like a little boy once more - not knowing what to make of thins.... Lost, as to wanting to be a little boy once more, so I do not have to face and make such decisions... Lost in thoughts as to why now my Mom brought this up... I could not help but think and wonder: "Is she feeling something that she is not telling us?" "Is she herself, preparing us... preparing me in her own way?" Maybe am just letting my imagination run once more... I do not really know... this is why I feel sooo LOST...

Later that same day, I found myself, in church once more... Praying.... Praying for more time... praying for less pain.... praying to find the strength for what else to come....

AstroBoy & The World of Tezuka Osamu

Had the pleasure of taking in a TRULY AMAZING EXHIBITION this morning: The World of Tezuka Osamu - world known Japanese Artist/Illustrator, Father & Creator of much loved ANIME/MANGA comics, animation, characters such as Black Jack, Princess Knight, Kimba: The White Lion, PIKOKO, Phoenix, Buddha, and of course, AstroBoy!!! Even if you are not an ANIME DIE HARD - you must have seen or heard of AstroBoy - especially with the recent Hollywood treatment....

In Japan, he is often referred to as the "Godfather of Anime"... and is likened to America's Walt Disney - admittedly, an inspiration to Master Tezuka in his formative years. Of special note: The distinctive "large eyes" style of Japanese animation is very much attributed to Mr. Tezuka. It is said that he drew inspirations on cartoons of the time such as Betty Boop, Walt Disney's Bambi and Mickey Mouse.

Born in 1928, he started to draw comics around his second year of elementary school. At an early age, he came to the realization that he could use manga as a means of helping to convince people to care for the world. It was after World War II, that he created his first piece of work (at age 17), Diary of Ma-chan and then Shin Takarajima (New Treasure Island), this is attributed as the beginning of the golden age of manga, a craze comparable to American comic books at the time. Hence, Japanese manga artists started referring to him as: "Manga-no-kami sama" (the god of manga). And there was no stopping him ever since....

A succession of COMICS that were translated to Manga Books, then on to Anime Films - and the rest they say is history... and what a legacy he has left for Manga Lovers the world over.... his tales and illustrations are timeless - and like his IDOL,Mr Disney, himself - Mr Tezuka and his works will live on for generations and generations to come....

I knew that Capt America aka Chris Evans is the new GUCCI GUILTY pour homme... but I just saw these adverts last nite and it is SMOKING!!! Chris' piercing eyes are still that, PIERCING as EVER!!! I actually like his physique here - more than his overly bulging, Capt. America one... and as an added bonus, Evan Rachel Wood is his equally smoking hot babe in the advert.... both looking uber sexy in the film advert - just wished it translated more in the print ads.... only Chris's eyes shines...

Now, when is Captain America coming out again???

okay okay, am probably going to get STONED for this but admittedly, am probably one of the few who did not get on the Harry Potter Bandwagon.... did not read a single book.... saw parts 1, 3, and last year's Harry Potter 7 . Part 1...

Though I did enjoy the first one, i just did not get hooked like most... so I skipped 2... but was dragged to 3.... and saw the 7th one just because there was nothing else to see at that time..... but this time, I really opted to go with the girls (Juliana, Sue & Cecilia - now, they are REAL FANS!)) to see what is to be the end - but then again, is there ever an end to something that just keep on making money??? am sure Hollywood will still find a way to bring back the franchise... in one form or another....

The movie delivered.... I actually enjoyed it very much and was entranced by all the things that was going on.... I was glued to the screen all 2 hrs plus of it.... even when that creepy snake was slithering about - and you know I cannot stand snakes... so many characters died - and not just minor ones... and though it is to be expected that GOOD will TRIUMPH OVER EVIL - you actually HOPED for this throughout.... this is nothing like the first kiddie one I saw many years ago.... it is more mature, darker, and much much more emotional... now I wish there would be a follow up....

Seeing was a total experience too.... so many people lined up to get tickets for the early show - under the heat of the beating sun.... still, you see nothing but excitement in their faces.... and in the theatre - you see how they really get into the film.... clapping, agitated and yes, crying.... I have not seen so many audiences get this emotionally involved since ET phoned home... LOL..... NOTE: TWILLIGHT SAGA does not count - another franchise I never got into... LOL....

Fun Friday All!!!

Yesterday was somewhat of a frustrating day..... actually the last few days, really.... so much waiting... wasting time... and dealing with nonsense.... all the frustrations led me to think about what to do to lift my spirits up... and in an instant, running came to mind... something I have not really done for over 3 months due to the knee giving out on me... since then, I have just been resting up the legs.... then late last month, i started little by little walking at the Gym's treadmill... all that's been good so far, so a slow run - I thought - might not be so bad.... and Boy, am I glad I did it!The run turned out to be a GREAT MOOD PICKER UPPER... it was sooooo refreshing to be out when the skies were not soooooo gloomy... out breathing the fresh air..... out seeing other runners, bikers, walkers all enjoying the day..... and out seeing all the lovely sceneries - natural and man made - that is on the path of the run.... here's a few shots....

So it was TRULY a GREAT THING... and you can bet I will, slowly but surely, will be getting back to running on a regular basis.... Good thing I was able to do this as it started raining once more in the early evening....

Thanks to Juliana, I found my newest addiction... okay okay Obsession really.... Showtime's WEEDS.... already in it's 7th Season, I just got hooked watching Seasons 1 thru 5, in less than a week... LOL... it's humorous, raw, gritty, and well, casted.... so talented people are here - some I have liked over the years - in particular, lead & the show's central figure, Mary Louise Parker.... not that the others are reduced to supporting scenes only - they too, get to shine... and shine these other great talents do: Justin Kirk, Kevin Nealon, Elizabeth Perkins, etc... and I just have to give a special mention to new TV CRUSH, HOTTIE Hunter Parrish (he is the Nancy Botwin's just turned 18 son - and actually one of the more sane and matured character in the show....) did not even know he is the same as the bad boy in 17 Again....So many familiar and talented movie and TV faces have turned up, too: Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jessica Biel, Alanis Morrisette, Mary Kate Olsen, Albert Brooks, Richard Dreyfuss, Kate del Castillo, to name a few.. all used and fitted in rather nicely, no one wasted in their roles - no matter how small or big, or how long they stayed in the show....

I love the way the show is written.... always on the verge of realism and the absurd.... almost like real life... but you do get those instances where something is just too shocking to believe... and yet you say to yourself: "it could happen..."

Anyway, am not much of a reviewer... just a fanatic - whenever a show really captivates me - and this one has got me captivated, through and through.... now bring on Season 6 before Season 7 finishes.....

truly not my day... LOL....

Started off with being awaken right before 7AM by, a nameless someone, talking on his cel phone - for a long time and loudly - right in front of my bedroom window.... so no escaping this.... had to get up waaaaay before my 7:30AM ALARM went off.... just had to say under my breath: "could be worse, could be raining..."

I think I JINXED myself with these murmurs as when I started packing a few more things to take to the PO to ship - as soon as I was all packed and all ready to go - it started pouring.... and I mean pouring with THUNDER to boot.....

Of course, just as when I was all naaah not that bad... more like a bit irritating.... oh well, at least it made for an entry for my 365 project... and most of all, tomorrow is another day.... a chance to do right and to do even better.... :)

but the highlight for today is the site of Jewel and Wu Papa both dead asleep on the couch... we were at the park for a little over an hour... came back in, and I went to take a leak and the minute I come out, there they were - both fast asleep... could not pass up the opportunity to snap them.... hahahahahahaha...
